Brah anything is possible. However the way people get busted is talking about shit they shouldn't. Don't show your or talk about your grow with anyone. Also if you are concerned about it don't do it or move to a green state. I can tell you first hand it's awesome. I grow a lot of cannabis with no worries.

I was not referencing the legal side, but the practical side. This is in a Basement, in a Wooden Closet, with a 200w Bulb, which itself is putting out less heat than a space heater. Wonder if this basement even has windows?
So I think the local Heat Detective, with a heat detector, probably not going to be issuing a warrant to search.

Modern IR sensors used by cleanup specialists (fire damage, crime scene, etc.) can see detail through several layers of walls, and they're not a government agency with virtually unlimited resources. Still, technically a Constitutional violation and I agree with the above, like AC/DC said, "loose lips sink ships".

It would be easier to decipher heat patterns from a more horizontal approach.
According to google this was a grow house that had FLIR used on it. I am wiling to bet in the attic. (notice how both pics there either is no basement, or the camera cant see it)
Here is another grow house that had flir. Notice how you can only see the basement at the ground level.

Couch I thing your a complete douche and maybe you should try google. Thats my opinion but hey what do I no your in a green state were you dont worry congrats on being a big guy. No flir cant see in a basement unless it has windows or you have nothing above the basement I am glad we have such smart and brilliant people in this world.

Still, I've personally seen modern IR equipment in action and it certainly can see everything from the air, windows or no. Still a moot point in the US, it can't be used to obtain a search warrant. However, your power utility is asked to snitch on you for unusual power consumption and that CAN be used to get a warrant. You gotta love glaring contradicitons.

Even if they did, why would they waste their time on one plant?
One of my dads good friends used to fly and he does no the ins and outs of it I live on east coast. He was the only pilot around my area for prob 10 years and he flew for police dhec etc for night missions flir ops etc. Flir is great but its hard to even distinguish between normal rooms and grow rooms except for above case were they were growing in an addict. He caught more people by( as he says) by flying low around eleven in the morning and the green of mj is totally diff looking from most plants around a normal house or in the woods as mj sticks out more. its deeper green etc etc well taken care of compared to other plants in the yard or around it. He also mentioned when a shadow is casted its even easier but never understood all that he was talking he is retired (almost 2 years now) and smokes weed.

Well, one thing you can do to mitigate this if you're worried about it is to have your lights on during the daytime hours. When the roof is hot from sunlight it makes the contrast MUCH more difficult to see.

It's not the amount of heat but the contrast with the surrounding temp. A 200w will absolutely be visible if the surrounding temp is < 80°F.
