Anybody have any idea what's wrong with these clones?

I cut 2 clones 18 days ago and they are not doing so good. I removed the lower yellow leaves and now they are naked.

I used rooting powder on the cuttings, there rooted if not they would have died by now I think. It's that they where real yellow. When they where first cut i had the light in the hood and the temps did pass 80 F. Also the CFL was about an inch away. Maybe the combination of excess heat and proximity of CFL caused the yellowing. And maybe some nut burn as well. I'm not sure.

Can anyone suggest what I should do?

Sorry to hear that. They're rooted, well one for sure is, I just dropped one cup now to take pics and saw some good looking roots.

do you have a dome over them? I grow from seed but the 1 thing I found out about domes is that they kill. Threw the dome away to my seed starter now they don't die. 18 days is a long time to go without roots, I am sure they have them. Have you tried light veg nutrients? My plants turn yellow from the bottom when they have no nutrients. Don't give them a lot a really light dose. The stem on the last pic looks way too thick for those leaves, maybe you should take smaller cuttings?

if your temps get over 75 f for get about making roots. they wont do it . I suggest getting a ac unit or go hydro keep the water 60 to 75.f I like mine at 65 the root fast . I bet you if you pull one of those plants out of the dirt. you will notice the stem has slime al over it . and no roots at all.

The dome was on in the beginning. After like 10 days I took them out. I gave a little nuts and got impatient and started plucking leaves thinking the yellow ones would hinder development of new ones. Both plants have roots so no slime. Just wondering why so yellow and how to treat. Does it matter how long the cuttings are? I've read from 5" to 8" is ok for clony's. I've seen some clones before but not yellow. I'm thinking now I burned them with too much nuts.

I would say don't pluck the yellow leaves off just trim 1/3 to 2/3 of it off to reduce stress, let the plant drop them from there. Also let the medium dry out some before rewatering, the dryer medium will force the plant to root to find more water.

I agree that temps too high are not helpful, I only put the heat mat under half of the dome and it works well. That will depend on the ambient temps where you grow though but I am in a cold climate and it works well.

I'll let them dry out a bit then when I go to water I'll give some 1/4 strength nuts. I'll trim instead of pluck

Also this strain I'm growing is very tough. When I transplanted my first plant (Zephy) the soil was realy loose and about 1/3 of her roots just tore off with the falling soil and she didn't even flinch. She looks realy good now,

I've kept the room from 69-73 F. I wish I knew what strain she is.

Hi Fang,
I'm with you on temps. I always use a heat mat under cloning tray. You said that the mother was a bit yellow when you cut the clones? That's a major issue right there. And I usually cut off all leaves except the top two. That minimizes transpiration rate. And I know many people clone in dirt...the one disadvantage of that is that you don't know what's happening. For dirt...I use Jiffy peat pucks. For hydro...small rockwool squares. That way when you see roots out of the bottom...you know to transplant into media.

I think it's possibly too late for this...but you can foliar feed cuttings to keep them going till they root.
Good luck,
JD

it looks like too much heat, water, and a mineral deficiency locking out Nitrogen. How is the ph?
Burgertime theyve just been cloned, i doubt theyre having a mineral deficiency locking out nitrogen and theyre in some type of soil so ph isnt really an issue unless your in coco like you run.

Looks to me like the cloning just didnt go perfectly, you cant really do much for them at this point except wait it out. If theyve rooted thell take off eventually, even baldy. I dont take clones with dirt in cups because its not the most reliable way. I use rooter plugs, cloning gel not powder, and a real humidity dome. Buy the best tools for the job and the job goes easier. I also always take more clones than i need and take the best ones, that way even if your having problems like your having, youll still have a couple goodns that pull through. Good luck man :)

Magnesium and Sulfur(Epsom salts) in light foliar spray will green them up a bit. Honestly I keep Miracle grow on hand for veg when I have problems that I cannot pin down.

Did you place directly into soil? If so what kind. Second yellowing of leafs is completely normal on clones and as a rule of thumb should never be removed. Do your self a favor and get some root riot cubes and place your cuttings in there. Then place the root riot cubes in a solo cup filled with dirt and water everything with pH'd water. Cut the bottom off of a clear two litre bottle and use those as individual humidity domes. Cuttings don't need much light. Keep your cfl about ten inches above the dome.

I would kill off those cuttings you made and start fresh. Good luck bro
