-- "Yes, I identify as black or African-American, but I am not a Negro," said a 25-year-old teacher from New York City.
On Monday, when Raeana Roberson took the day off from work to report for jury selection, she was not prepared for what she called an offensive and disgusting experience.
The juror information card all prospective jurors have to fill out included a race category that included, "Black, African-American, or Negro."

So what's wrong with negro ffs?
And I can't stand afro fucking american.. I'm Irish, do I call myself Irish american ffs? How about any other nationality? Do Italians call themselves Italian Americans ? Why do negros feel the need to separate themselves by calling themselves Afro Americans? Like 90% of afro Americans have ever even seen afro-ca..
I've been to Dublin yet here I am, not calling myself an Irish american, rather simply an American ..
Rant over, negro, omfg, let me get out my KKK suit out now, Christ..

this has been a quandary of mine for some time..if someone asks you to describe someone else the first thing you don't say is "white" girl and so on..however, when the person is black, the first thing out of your mouth is "black" girl..

It depends on what you are, and what the persons you are talking to are.

Police do say "white male."

But white folks talking to other white folks don't say white girl. It is assumed.

Black folks talking to other black folks say white girl.

right? but why do we do this? when you think about it, it makes no difference..is the fact that someone is black or white have to do with the subject at hand? often times not.. yet, it is still this way..

I guess that's where you are from and the crowd you are in. It's pretty 50/50 here and if you want to be descriptive, you say white guy-black guy. We never say African American at our hospital, there are 12 of them (African citizens that either are, or will be American citizens) and 8 are white. It's an offensive term to actual Africans.

Words paint a picture in the mind. We do it to be descriptive.

If you're trying to identify someone, you'd say, what, the person has a big nose, tattoo down their arm, black skin,, sexy lil ass, etc etc.. no?
Or maybe she was a small white chic, blonde hair, small nose and a flat ass.. while being white or black doesn't make any difference as to the persons ability, it is surely a descriptive term..

I've encountered it as a simple identifier, alongside, say, "tall".

Very true, but we like to be descriptive. You may even tell a story about someone and mention how fat, or if they are red-headed and freckled, or tall or short, it's just part of telling a story.

You have to answer for yourself why saying a tall black guy walked into the store causes a reaction and claims of racism but saying a short guy with blond curly hair walked into the store seems perfectly natural and OK. I'm lost to the rules of PC, I can't keep up so I just ignore them.

Well shit then, why say tall or short or big and fat while we're at it, this way we can insult anyone we want and no onewill have a cblue as to who the hell we're talking about ..
Or shit, let's simply eliminate all adjectives as they're simply meaningless..

Negro is espanol for black. "A Negro" is an outdated southern racial slur.

In english you say "black man", in espanol it's just "negro" or "hombre negro".

And there you have it...

PS> It's a juror form, race and sex and the like matter when trying to put together a jury.

Can you provide authoritative reference for that opinion?

First off fuk you.. "why do negros feel the need to searate themselves".. Not all black people signed some petition to be called African Americans. FYI black people don't often have the luxury of tracing their ancestry back to a particular country. I actually have some Irish in me, but you're making us look like some ignorant potato eating pricks. Keep your ignorant ass thoughts to yourself.
