Navy SEALs 2016 will accept women

I was watching some stuff and it crossed my mind if woman were allowed to join the seals yet. I had remembered reading that women were going to be allowed to enter the program so i looked it up.

The site i was reading decided i couldn't view their news any longer unless i join their site. but i'm smarter than them..> cached version: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:NFLZ1n-ZI54J:www.utsandiego.com/news/2013/Jun/22/navy-seals-women-physical-standards/+&cd=3&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us

I personally have no issue with them joining, but in the article, it seems that they have led all the women to believe that in order to pass BUD/s all you have to do is
SEAL Tough Test

ExerciseMinimumOptimum
Swim 500 yards12½ minutes9 minutes
After a 10-minute rest, push-ups 2 minutes5090
After a 2-minute rest, sit-ups in 2 minutes5085
After a 2-minute rest, pull-ups (no time limit)1018
After a 10-minute rest, run 1½ miles10½ minutes9½ minutes

I guess they just failed to mention that yes you can enter the program with the ability to do these exercises, but didn't happen to mention that you are going to be in freezing water, mentally broken down, not able to properly eat or get nutrition or sleep all while still completing those exercises and more. just to name a few.

what are your views on this?
Should the standard be be lowered to accommodate women or should they be held to the same standards as men?
Should there be another living quarters developed for women also?

Same standards. Only difference should be in lifting, this needs to be revised to a per cent of body weight.

This isn't only for their protection and well being, but for those besides them.

Im really not a big fan of females being front line or special ops soldiers. But I'm not a big enough opponent of it to deny them the opportunity if that is what they want. Special ops teams like the Seals might be a bridge to far, if you will.

i don't think that there should a restriction on lifting. if you're in the field and your fellow seal is wounded you should be able to carry or drag them to safety. imo

Its tough to think about sexism going on in there, especially in branches with much more rigorous standards that already has really high fail ratio's, women that make it through will be far and in-between comparatively considering how outnumbered they are in other branches. And with histories past with militaires with abuse and sexism theres it seems like a high chance that injustice will ensue. But it has to happen sooner or later better to get it over with

If a woman can make it thru that program more power to her..

just makes you think though, there is such a high dropout rate and the others just cant make it. i believe only 10% make it to become a seal.

Raw physical strength matters less now than it ever has in combat. In the middle ages women would be at a distinct disadvantage, although some famous women from that time did disguise themselves as men and fight, except for joan of arc. No disguise there.

Although there are instances of hand to hand combat still occurring, it is not the norm.

Although, if I were taken prisoner, I would almost rather be a man where I was just executed straight away, rather than a woman where the likelihood of rape and sexual torture is probable.

Women can shoot just as well, are equally as smart, and can provide comfort on those long cold nights in the mountains of Pakistan.

What a joke.

FUCK the SEALS though, right?

Those dudes don't deserve to have the best team mates they can get right?

If females brought anything to the table men don't already bring, I'd have no issues with it, however, that is not the case. Females bring a unit DOWN due to the sexual relationships that always develop, the bullshit "sexual harassment" baggage they bring, and due to the fact they can't fucking compete physically with males.

And of course, when these chicks FAIL because they don't meet the standard, there will be a big P.C. outcry, and they'll just lower the fucking standards. Just like they did for cops, and firefighters.

there has been talk of making it more doable for females and the debate continues on how to accommodate their facilities and lower the amount of reps for them. i completely disagree with that standard. if you want to join this force you should be able to equally carry your weight. otherwise people die.

They are also opening ranger training for females in mid 2015.

i'm not sure if i agree with women being a distraction as i would think that seals would be able to have self control. at least i would hope. then again the peen is a powerful instigator.

In all honesty i'm not sure if the small unit cohesion, high stress tolerance and 0% recovery time (physically) required of male SF personnel would be suited to females. Females no doubt make formidable intelligence operatives and many SF capable units have females assigned to their intelligence gathering elements; this includes special mission units that operate under the JSOC/USSOCOM banner. I wouldn't expect to see any support among NSW personnel for dropping the standards required by BUD/S or any of the schools/courses that candidates would attend during their reinforcement cycles. An undertaking like [dropping the standards] that would be so detrimental to elements of the armed forces that are essentially leading warfare in the 21st century.

Well, Ill play devils advocate...

Female members bring this, Trans-Generational deployment length missions.

Thats right.

Where before a missions length might have been limited to 30 or 40 years until the soldier started to succumb to old age, now the Seal Team will be able to multiply, giving a mission an extra twenty or more years in possible length.

I think a lot of women seen the movie gi jane and thought, hey i could do that. There are a lot of intelligent women, but they should really do their research on the program and not just take those exercises as what will make or break them. in the article i posted the 21yo asian that says she can do those exercises with no problem. she also talks about getting proper nutrition and plenty of rest. those 2 things don't exist in bud/s.
