I been growing just over a year indoors now, and I still am working out the kinks, and fucking things up every now and then, and scared of hydro growing still (soil here), you got some balls to start with hydro. Unless you have gardened before, that is.

Hydroton clay pebbles ALL DAY!!!! They are awesome. Also they float in water so when u transplant you can put the pebbles in the net pot, submerge in water so pebbles are floating, then just poke the roots into the pebbles. When you pull the net pot out gravity does the rest and you have just transplanted without putting things into shock.

Rockwool will fluctuate ph and coco will fall through your net pot.

The best media is no media. In hydro the media is just for plant support and while all can do this many cause issues with pH or other issues. I run my aero and dwc set ups with no media, just net pots and foam collars. I can pick up my 5gal dwc buckets with 3-4' plants and easily move them, tilt them, check and adjust pH, and change res without ever making a mess or worrying about the plant. If you have ever stepped on hydroton with bare feet you will appreciate never doing it again.

I was debating on running my next Dwc with just a rubber stopper into a 5 gallon bucket like on the aerocloners. So how does your dwc setup run with those foam collars? Got any pics?

I did a dwc thread called, e z dwc, I think it was. I just use 2" net pots and collars and the pull to length twist tie to secure stalk to lip of bucket.

I disagree...

If u can afford all the necessary equipment for a hydro grow
it takes alot of the guesswork out of the equation.
Dwc standalone buckets super simple...

tryit u will be surpised how simple it is (and way faster then soil)

How do you plant germinated seeds like that?

Its easy man start a seed or clone in a rapid rooter plug,
wait a week maybe two, when u see roots comming
out of the bottom of the plug transfer to dwc.
top feed for a couple days then your good to go.

Well from what I've been reading it's not gonna be that bad once u get the feeding schedule figured out. I've got 2 goin in soil as well I figured I'd try em both to see which I liked better. It should be interesting to see which is better for me whether it be ease of the grow, better yield, and overall final product quality. Been laid off work for bout 3 months and want something to occupy all this free time I have lol. I appreciate all the input and helpful friendly advice. Once I get everything ordered and goin I'm gonna do a grow journal so keep your eyes up for that if your wondering how this will play out lol.

So u just take the seedling outta the plug and put it in the rubber stopper or foam? I'd like to try the no medium thing sounds a lot easier and less messy. Also how does the top feeding work after the transplant, do u just water like once a day or multiple times since there is no medium?

Is there a DIY way to use the rapid rooter plugs or do you have to buy the kit? Sry just looked on Amazon and they have a lot of different choices.

Put clone/seed in plug. 80 humidiy 80 temp for a week

wait till roots show thru plug.

place plug with roots into dwc net pot.

roots will not be touching the water yet so
u will hand water couple times daily,
meaning literally pouring water on top
of your roots (top feeding)

once roots are long enuff, they will touch
the water...no need to top feed anymore..

complete

I highly recommend looking up info on cloning and propagating
using rapid rooter style plugs...
