The Hipster Beard VS The Beard

I just wanted to make a point, because people look at me and because I have a beard and a hat, they say that I am a "hipster" with a "hipster beard".

I understand that in this age of hipsters it is hard to tell which beards are Hipster and which ones are not.

Hipster Beard:
A "Hipster Beard" by definition, is ON a Hipster.
A Hipster is someone that spends most of their time on Xbox LIVE or WoW or Watching my Little Pony. A hipster will OPENLY and PROUDLY call themselves nerds. Which by extension translates into them being openly proud of their beards, because they are nerds and it is the only masculine thing about them. So Hipster's will talk about their beards on a regular basis.
A Hipster Beard will drink Pabst blue ribbon.
A Hipster Beard has a skinny tie hanging under it and maybe suspenders around it.
A Hipster Beard may be accented by a curly ended mustache or other strange "beard style"s
A Hipster Beard is a novelty item, a talking point.

Regular Beard:
Is what happens when someone doesn't shave.

That's pretty much true. People look at pictures of history and tons of people have weird shit like that. So they decided to do it too.
Like if you look up anyone from Columbus's time no one has a regular beard.

wow that's scary..i was just thinking about this today..i saw one of those "testosterone" commercials in which the "man" gazes into the mirror in the am..today is the day! to try testosterone..and he has the "shadow" beard which was the beard of choice before the full hipster beard..except he looked more like a bum..i'm here to tell men..the shadow beard only looks good on younger men. although, if you insist on keeping your hair in the style it was accustomed when you graduated high school..when your in the 55-65 age group, it looks like shit because you're wrinkled..you can pull it off however, if you would commit to shaving your head or a fade on #3..then you can have shadow beard.

hipster beard is NEVER correct on the 55-65 age group..it just makes your mullet look like shit and you, an old man.

I totally agree. If you're over 50, it's time to put on a suit and open doors for kids that look like you used to. If you are 50 and have a pony tail, people in other countries just won't look at you right. As a kid they identify you as "The OTHER white American", but after a while it's just like "Do you have a guitar or something we are supposed to have heard you play before?"

Unless you are like Willie Nelson and DO have a guitar for them to hear.

man, i don't know where you live that hipsters watch my lil pony, as that's about as far from being a hipster as i can think of.. same with xbox live and wow, wow, really? wow might have been cool with the nerd crowd a good, idk, 5 years or so ago now, and the people who played wow were never really hipster, but more video nerds, again, nerds doesn't equal hipster around here, far different crowd and attitude.. hipsters are too cool to be playing something as mundane as xbox or wow.. once anything is mainstream, it's no longer hip..
hipsters are too busy going to clubs and listening to bands you've never heard of, because once you and i have heard of them, they're no longer hip, and the hipster is on to the next hip thing.. think shoe gaze..
spot on about pbr though, uber hipster drink, and around philly, the hipster thing and pbr is so in, a bottle of pbr is now about $7 or so at the local hipster spots, damn hipsters killing the price of cheap beer..
and again, i don't think hipsters openly call themselves nerds, hipsters are much too cool to label themselves like that, and i don't really agree with hipsters being nerdy, two completely different things around here..
i do agree with hipsters and beards though.. my friend i grew up with moved to nyc, was in a shoe gaze band, and is about the biggest hipster d bag i know of, and of course he's got the hip'est hipster beard i've ever seen..
me, on the other hand, am also bearded, but it's not because i'm a hipster, as i don't have time to go around keeping up with the hipest new shit out there, i'm just too damn lazy to shave, so i have a beard instead, although i've been thinking of shaving it as i don't like being looked at like some hipster, which of course i'm not, i'm a lazy stoner..

Yeah, when I lived with Bronies in New Mexico one of them was all proud he was a hipster, but he would bring up that maybe he's not hipster because he thinks he is, and therefor he is not. But he just would say that to act like he was in on some kind of "cool" ironic paradox.

It was a show for little girls, but then they went and made a new version.

And there is a channel about video games called "G4". They play all the video game stuff and all the parkour stuff, so all kinds of Hipsters watch that channel. And they decided to put My Little Pony on there, and suddenly it became cool for guys up to like 40 to like Ponies and Friendship to an awkward level.
