North Sea oil and gas. Period. What possible benefit could that be to them?
I've read a few pro independence articles and can't get a good concise rational.
Any British subjects want to chime in?
Lots of people seem to fail to imagine the possibility of a new Northern Atlantic Union starting, possible members being Ireland, Scotland, Iceland, Greenland and the Nordic Countries. What sense does that make rob? So you say they need no governing body?
A scottish government will hold the best interest of its people . The brittish goverment exploits their resources and doesn't compensate them appropriatly. The brittish laws and taxes have stymied business without any growth in years.
About as good a reason as any.North Sea oil and gas. Period.
Not having to answer to Cameron and that wrinkly bitch in her fancy palace. Reason enough for me.What possible benefit could that be to them?

Aye, that would be enough reason for me too. Likely they will track down the Young Pretenders great great great great great great grand son, find a big rock, put a chair on it and restore their ancient monarchy. Not having to answer to Cameron and that wrinkly bitch in her fancy palace. All serious reasoning aside, i'm really really hoping that they do leave the UK, for no other reason than how much it will piss of Westminster.

There's a country in europe, or the baltic region, which does the same, and it seems to be a wildly successful policy. In the UK though, the citizens come last, so that would hardly ever happen hereSeems like Alaska takes the states cut of oil revenue and gives it directly to the people.
I'm not sure if they get a check or how it works.
But Scotland could do something like that.
I believe you're thinking of Norway. Huge national oil and gas company. State owned. National trust fund. Revenues are injected into the fund so their currency doesn't become overvalued and ruin their export capacity. one of the highest standards of living and quality of life in the world. Cradle to grave social safety net. There's a country in europe, or the baltic region, which does the same, and it seems to be a wildly successful policy. Every citizen of Alaska gets a check every year. In 2013 it was $900 per person. They also have no sales or income taxes to pay.Seems like Alaska takes the states cut of oil revenue and gives it directly to the people.
