Vertical Heat ?'s

Whats up RIU have a couple questions about growing vertical. I see a lot of ppl not running cool tubes with a vertical bulb with their plants practically touching! Some of you guys here were born to grow lol. How does it work? Is it recommended to just use a house fan to cool the light? In my 4x4 I'm going to run a 600w and I'm just trying to get solid feedback on what exhaust fan to run? When I was planning horizontally, as well as thru my light, members here recommended at least an 8in with around 700cfm. Is this still necessary? Im not going to run thru my light so setup exhaust fan pulling thru filter only. Is this recommended? Im open to all comments/advice. Thanks guys.

If you're going to run vertical, do it right; no cool tube. This is better in many ways, and the extra heat is negligible.

Run a fan blowing straight up thru the centre of the silo. This will take advantage of hot air's propensity to rise and help push heat out the top of the unit, replacing it with cool potential CO² laden air from near the floor.

Climate controlling the room can then be done in any of several ways, but the most challenging issue will likely be controlling excess humidity- this due to the high square footage of the trellis relative to conventional growing methods.

Same thing I thought. Theres one thing I realized tho... You guys HAVE grown I'm just trying to get into the game. Its always good to get sound advice from ppl that know their stuff. Not that it wasn't good advice... I made a judgment call. 440cfm is what I've ordered so hopefully running bare bulb and fan/filter combo can control my 4x4.

Conventional wisdom holds that you run out and buy a dehumidifier. I don't hold with conventional wisdom, in that I cool my whole op with water chilling; this means that if I set my water circuit to run cold enough, it will act AS the dehuey.

Other options include venting when excess humidity builds up or just venting constantly.

Im going to just vent constantly. I have a 440cfm fan on the way with a speed controller. Setup is gonna be naked 600w HPS hanging vert and my fan filter in the corner. Im hoping if i can find a "sweet spot" with my fan that will allow me to run without a ac or dehumidifier like ttystikk. Are there folks that are only running a fan filter without ac/dehumidifier

i run a fan no filter, yet as smell isnt noticable, in a 4x3x4 box, now ive learned that the temp outside the grow room is a factor in controlling the temps in the grow room. if its warm outside my grow room its harder to bring the temps down. dunno if you knew that but figured id add my $.02. i say this though cause i too have a 440cfm fan no speed controller running 24/7 and i only run a 400w hps. ive hit 90*f a couple of times but im not running ac in my place or anything. i love fresh natural air. good luck

YES, this can be done effectively, provided you meet the basic conditions; it will do you no good to draw in hot air, so intake air must be cool enough to carry heat out of your setup. The smaller your setup and the larger the difference between intake air and operating temperature, the less ventilation you'll need. If temperatures change, your ventilation rate needs to change. In other words, use an environmental controller.

If you are in an arid climate, count your blessings; you can use a swamp cooler to reduce temps and add humidity. Don't run it during your dark cycle.

Thanks for the info bro. I experimented with some different hydro systems and had to do away with it off the simple fact of noise and humidity. Not to mention i have some of the nosiest neighbors america has to offer. So no running water here. Humidity was the biggest problem. Ran a 4 pot rdwc for a few hours and the whole tent felt like a sauna. Going hemp or coco just like Snaps Provolone suggested when i first started posting here. Just went to Harbor Freight and grabbed their router speed controller for 20 bills.

True. Here's my dilemma... I have my 4x4x7 in my completely enclosed closet. Is there anyway I can get away with just a hole for an exhaust? No big deal if its necessary. If it was your space how would you vent? Thanks man your info is greatly appreciated.

You should be able to use a hole and exhaust fan. Vent from near the top.

An 860w CMH will put out as much heat as a 600w HPS
