let's do a more concrete example that goes specifically to what we are talking about.
a racist opens up a gas station and tells the public "come buy gas here".
a black guy goes to the gas station and says "i would like to buy some gas here".
the racist gets hostile and forcefully removes the black person from his property.
who initiated the aggression?

if the racist didn't open the gas station to sell gas to the public, then why didn't they just switch over to a private membership model after civil rights was instituted, so that they could continue to "own themselves" and keep "associating" with only those they wished to associate with?
