There's a few uk insults similar to it. Tosser (same literal meaning), tosspot... Generally not a 'sexual insult'. Wanker is stronger than tosser. I guess they tend to refer to someone's general beligerant attitude or actions.
Example: "Did you see how Growan posted loads of pictures of cats in that thread and then wrote 'about a pound'? What a wanker".

See, no sexual implications, but a general disapproval of Growan's purile actions.

In English as I have discovered most the derogatory words with male to male behaviors are sexual orientated, imposing shame of their sexual habits, to warm to male on male often its toilet waste, pee, period blood, even shit(popular) in English wanker is seen as one who wanks, masturbates, in the US motherfucker, one word implies a derogatory term who has sex with ones own family, and German Arse Loch, yet another term inflaming a persons sexual orientation, you would not want to be a homosexual pedophile in Germany..I suspect this in origin in a Anglo Saxon thing supported thru history by the Roman Catholic church
