Sealed Room With LED

Likely going with a sealed flower / veg room. This means I'll have to deal with Heat, CO2 and Humidity.

8'x9'x9' tall flower room
7'x9'x9' tall veg room

12 plants total grow. Nothing big at all.

I'm sure it'll be too hot in there despite the LED, so I'll assume I'll need some small in-room AC unit. I haven't looked into them yet, but can't do a mini-split. Any preferences for an AC unit?

The added CO2 I understand will give me some head room with heat. I'm just going to use a CO2 tank for now.

I'll run a small dehumidifier in there. I've had shit luck with dehumidifiers in the past, so I'm totally open to brands.

I'm hoping that some other LED growers might give some insight as to heat potential, words of advice, etc.

Thanks!

Without knowing the total led wattage, can't give a definite answer. But I think you would have very little issues doing a winter sealed run with just good air circulation.

Yes summer humidity/heat will be a major concern(co2 will help:)).................. If mini-splits aren't an option , I would definitely go with a window ac unit over the freestanding ones as their horribly inefficient, same with the dehumidifiers(compressor is internal/heat contribution added to the room)

good luck grower and be safe

The temp will be the same summer or winter. It's the basement of a very insulated house. So no windows...

So the in-room AC units stink

The in-room de-humidifiers also add heat.

A sealed room sounds worse all the time...

Can you mount your heatsink fins outside the room? If you can dissipate some heat to the non-sealed side you can dramatically lower the inside temps. Lights at the very top or a false ceiling and bring the plants up to them.

If the lights are attached to the heat sink, the whole operation will be inside. Good thought, though

I will be mounting a heatsink to the ceiling of my micro cab. Fins and fans on the outside and the lights on the inside. This will allow me to run them hotter and harder with my limited airflow stealth situation.

I want to place the lights where I need them, Rather than all in the ceiling.

How about building a box around the heatsinks with holes on either end for a cool-tube style setup?

Hey Cap. Thanks for weighing in.

I guess it's safe to say that I will have to have some supplemental air-conditioning, even with a LED

I just sealed my room up and got co2 going. With all my air off totally sealed it is staying at 83* with no AC since it's chilly outside(38 ) I won't get away without AC most of the time, but should be a low load when it does run.

No matter what, an AC is needed once it's sealed. But once it's running problems solved. Heat is the only real issue with sealing up.
Lots of AC's have dehumidd build in. Otherwise use your current one...it will work fine, AC will cool it's heat down too.

The bitch is I have a Mr Slim for the bedroom, but it's a single zone unit.

And no windows (the plan).

GreenGenes- what AC / Dehum are you looking at?

My LG air conditioners have a dehumidify setting but they shut off after the set temp is reached so I also needed a dehumidifier. I haven't had to turn on my furnace zone for my basement yet and only turned off my air conditioner for the basement less than a week ago,my rooms aren't sealed tho.

I probably should have bought a multi-zone Mr Slim condenser. I can't add a zone, as I just called and asked them

I have a big LG15000btu widow unit I already bought. Not going to work for your setup.
It's loud as hell so I might sell it and down size soon.

I was hoping I'd pick up enough heat headroom by using LED and CO2, but that appears to be a pipe dream.

LOL is that a pun?

I have two areas I grow in with tents and cabinets, one is 200 sq/ft the other is 350 sq/ft and the 8000 BTU units I have handle it quite well.

Both spaces have a max of 1100 watts of LED running at any given time.

Not a pipe dream. My room is totally sealed and double insulated and as long as it is in the 40's outside, I can stay low to mid 80's with no AC or exhaust. But I can't bank on thataimtaining throughout the grow so I have te AC. But it's load is very light.

There'll won't be any change in temperature of summer versus winter in my location.
