Had to do a BETTER update lol, hated my soap opera effect cheesey cell phone pics. My wife's canon rebel ti does the plants justice :bigjoint:
ice bomb day 6 from germ

Day 8 now on 13.5/10.5 with far red lumi gro leds on at lights out for 5 min. After a couple harvests with far red vs traditional 12/12 I will personally never flower without them.

So I wanted to have things be even in my flower room, so I bought a magnetic ballast to fire up a 3rd 860 watt cmh in the middle of my room in an og hood between the two luxors. Trying to eliminate the use of the two 315 watt cmh i had in there before, so i can use them in a different veg/flower room. To my surprise it fired up the bulb on the mh switch no problem, but after checking on a kill-a-watt meter it was drawing 1060 watts (which i know is normal for a 1000 watt setup) but on this bulb it is overdriving the bulb 200 watts! I checked my other ballasts from dna supposedly digital ballasts and they only draw 887 watts. A friend of mine is has the allstart with the exact mag ballast from philips and it only draws 867 which is very efficient in regards to the bulbs actual wattage.... So will my bulb explode if I continue to use it? I read other users using mag ballasts with 860's so i figured I would give it a shot as the sun system hard core mag 1000 watt only cost me 100$....Looking for feedback on what i should do :wall: At any rate here are the pic with just two 860's on , and the second pic is all 3 with the mag ballast combo in the middle

That was one of the first ballast I ever bought. Still have it. God damn it was loud the last time I fired it up(about a year ago).

The garden looks killer. So happy!

Garden looks nice coco, wish I could help on the ballast dilemma but my gut feeling says not to do it. I usually try to match everything electrically to avoid problems.

i have four of the advanced ballasts that philips recommends
as a pair with the 860 cdm bulbs for sale currently. hit me up
if you wanna talk about it, they are brand new in box.

garden is looking great also, can't wait to see 'em fatten up!

clone to flower is a great way to grow IME, as long as your strain
yields well you can really pull some efficiency in terms of g/kWh.

i ran a couple varieties that would pull an oz when flowered from
cutting in 2g of soil. 3-3.25 lbs per light with no veg time is a thing
to behold. if you can get clones locally, try to find the ohio lemon G.

here's a room filled with plants flowered from cuttings, these were
grown in beds of sunshine advanced #4 mix and fed h3ad formula
and liquid karma. liquid karma, GH micro and bloom at a 3:6:9 ratio.
each plant only had about a half gallon of root space. strains were,
in order of yield from high to low-

Lemon G
BTK kush
Double D Chemdawg
Boneshine (a blue moonshine cutting from a large selection)
Agent Orange
orgnkid's Banana OG
LA con
KO kush
Lemon Larry

When did you take the reading??? initial draw is always very high. Need to remember that efficient mag ballasts cost $$$$, but worth it.

I would try this before replacing ......Also your correct that you do not wanna overdrive a cmh/mh bulb!!! needs to be taken care of asap

blow out all the dust inside the unit==== heat is no bueno on any ballast, clean(alcohol/q-tip) and inspect pin(needs full contact) inside the mogul socket ...............last replace the capacitor if it's still over drawing.

If that doesn't solve the issue it may be your bulb(check it on the other ballasts to make sure)

that's all I got..............Looking awesome Coco

I have to keep my plant count in check, no need for me to be greedy. I grow fewer big plants. I'll update soon on my main flower area which are 8 plants in 10 gal filling up just about all available room. prob my best run in a while.

The cheapy sun system mag ballast was a test really to be honest. It is supposed to run around 1000 watts as its a 1000 watt ballast, I gave it a shot reading that people have used them on 860 cmh. But i have no worries as I have the exact philips made ballast for the bulb coming soon.

keep it in the philips family and you're golden. added benefit of knowing the specs from philips on bulb life and maintenance were likely pulled from a test deck using the very same ballast you have coming!

I agree with bhave, Phillips automotive hid ballasts were always reliable.

Update flower room day 22, the room is performing at almost optimal levels. I'm trying to tweak everything just right this run as I haven't been hitting my potential. I think the 3rd 860 in the middle vs the 2 315 watt agro's is making a big difference in bud development and penetration into the canopy as well.
I'm now watering/feeding every other day in the 10 gal coco pots and I can tell it won't be long before that becomes an everyday task. However i think its going to be my best run yet so i'm not complaining. My main goal is getting my run off to be as stable as the water going in the pots, ph and ppms. Its not easy but I'm very close= 5.9 ph in 6.1-6.2 run off and 950 ppm in and 1200 ppm run off.
A grower I know of that gets obscene yields /quality perfects this method of drain to waste to the "t" and is pulling 20-24 oz per plant in 10 gal smart pots. I believe 18 plants under 10k watts, so basically 1gpw. He has been doing this for years longer than me, and there are other variables as he has much more space but still i want that 1 gpw mark! One day....(And for the anal gpw or gpkw growers out there, i mean just a basic gpw lol :P)

On to the pics....first pics show my custom led ufo with 630/660nm 50/50 ratio when they come on 15 min ahead of the cmh to "wake up" the plants and they do stay on until lights out, when my far red kicks on. Which i believe is speeding along the process nicely.
