"White guilt" is a term used by people who believe that we live in a post-racial world. It is the pinnacle of privilege to use the term either as one who is feeling this type of guilt or by one who is accusing someone else of feeling it.
To use the term in any serious context means they see the world as if it is post-racial.

I wanna disagree.
But perhaps you can point me to some country where whites overcame persecution at the hands of other races. That would change my mind.
It doesn't make any sense to have pride in your arbitrary skin color unless you survived some type of adversity or persecution brought about by that skin color.

Because pride is derived from accomplishments, things you've done or accomplished in the face of adversity. Why would you be proud of something someone gave you that you didn't earn?
Who is telling you who you're "allowed to be proud of"?
I'm pointing out the irrationality in claiming pride for something given by way of genetics, that's compounded by the fact that in the real world, slaves were kept as a result.. Who would be "proud" of that?
Assuming you're white, you're "proud" of the slave trade?

I dont follow your reasoning of must have survived adversity based upon skin color to have any bearing about being proud of who you are .
Using your example as my free pass to earned pride , i grew up on Cass ave in Detroit smack dab in the middle of race riots with police where i was the only white kid for miles , pretty adverse situation i reckon & i wasn't welcome based entirely on color .
Again using your example of adversity ,me living & working in Beirut as a Christian White man was pretty adverse , i wasn't welcome & they let me know at every chance ,or the fact i married a Muslim Lebanese woman & faced in laws that despised me for 40 plus yrs before they died , hatred based on my skin color & religion instead of the man i am , adverse ?
We have mixed American Lebanese children who went to white schools because of my income bracket , our children weren't welcomed at school by their peers , counseling an 8 yr old who's been called a sand nigger that day at school is as adverse as it gets .
However i reject my personal experiences with racism as a basis for my self pride , being white is part of who i am , not the entire man i am but the part other races view me as, the way i see it is unless ive done something i should feel shame for thats connected with my skin color than i feel nothing but pride about who/what i am .
