Removing surface area increases surface area? If you had said that it induces the growth of more efficiant leaves, that I could believe, but the "surface area" idea doesn't make sense. If a leaf is not maintaining a plant's health, meaning it's out of nutrients, it sheds it. Why are you relying on your leaves to feed your plants again? I use the nutrients in my water for food and use my leaves for photosynthesis, call me crazy. Younger leaves produce photosynthesis more efficiently, this is science, I'll go link digging after some tea.
Edit:
I think the problem is you're trying to grow healthy plants and I'm trying to grow buds, just different approaches to growing.
Here's the first one I found, didn't feel like reading through others. http://bit.ly/1DK2jLO
It's inconclusive because there wasn't enough of a difference in age but they say their research of other studies indicates younger leaves are more photosynthetic.
Even if the rates were the same, which this study indicates isn't true, the study is comparing individual leaves, cutting off large fan leaves blocking other leaves allows more leaves and more surface area to be exposed granting more photosynthesis.

heh tnx ... i'm not like that ... i am all up for helping others so we can all benefit from what ever subject is in place ... i do " selective trimming" as T.H said on my scrog to expose more bud sites and it work wonders for me ... but if i am for a full strip... hell no .... but than again partial work's for me.....Well thats good. See, some people do this just to sit back and watch the sparks fly. I am glad that wouldnt be you...
Makes you wonder doesn't it?...Well thats good. See, some people do this just to sit back and watch the sparks fly. I am glad that wouldnt be you...
You DO know that leaves bring more light "energy" to the buds than the buds do under direct light.heh tnx ... i'm not like that ... i am all up for helping others so we can all benefit from what ever subject is in place ... i do " selective trimming" as T.H said on my scrog to expose more bud sites and it work wonders for me ... but if i am for a full strip... hell no .... but than again partial work's for me..
