Bad soil?

Okay, okay... I've searched and searched and all I can find is Miracle Grow plant soil. The pre-fertilized stuff. Either "seedling starter" or "moisture control". What do I do? Can I get by using one of these soils?

Anybody have any experience using these soils to grow?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

So are you saying I should go hydroponic? I'm not ready for that yet. Or can rockwool be used without a hydroponic system?

its what im using right now and not very pleased with it at all some are good some suck so it all matters what that stupid time release is doing its gay

I use MG's MC (moisture control) for starting seedlings and it's working just fine for me. If thats all you can find use it it may not be as good as promix or a few others but you don't have that choice right now. The problem with soilless mixes with no added nutes is your going to have to find a good one I recommend Peters 20-20-20 it's easy to find locally and it works great. I totally agree MG sucks The MC seems to work pretty good for me so you may also have as good of luck. RW sucks as a hydro grow medium as it needs too much maintence prep IME and it is not reuseable, I prefer hydroton ie; expanded clay pellets aqs they are easily reuseable and are totally inert.

If all you can find is MG, why not try scotts (it's the same company after-all). if they sell MG they sell scotts also. I know of a few people that use scott and they keep using it. if you are looking for good soil, do a search on google or yahoo! or something for a hydroponics store. there you will find foxfarm and things of that nature. happy growing

All I've been able to get my hands on so far is a couple of bags of top soil and some perlite. The garden centers/nurseries here are clearing out for the christmas season already!
I'm going to buy some worm castings and some fertilizer online. Do you think that'll work?
