gate.jpg Found a piece of a baby gate out in the shop. It's about 2'x2'. Hhmmmmmmmmm

Lil update day 44, 2 days into week 7 defoliated lower branches last week and raised the lights 4 inches seems too of pushed out a little stretch, was noticing compact growth when they get a certain hight from tthe lights. pics
Distance from the lights does seem to make a difference. It's a little more work to keep the lights and leaves very close, because you have to monitor them more frequently. I don't mind though, I like checking on them twice a day, it's become part of my rhythm.

My GSC -- both the one doing well and the one that got stressed -- have more distance between the nodes than the Casey Jones growing next to them. The leaves are almost the exact same shape/width, which is not hard science, but implies that they are similar mixes of Indica and Sativa, but the GSC are a loose growing plant. I've read the buds are sticky and potent, so I'm thinking quality, if not quantity.

Where would u feel comfy posting ur girl's? just excited to see them finnish thats all. hehehe
Well not only are they not under CFLs, or the 400hps. I bought a dimmable 600 that showed up yesterday. I put it all together and it's now beaming down on the 2 fem COCs, 1 fem COC 12/12 from seed, and 2 Berry Ryders with plenty of space for more. I'll grab some pics hear shortly.

@Humanrob me (whispering) its ur girls Q center stage asap lol how are your girls doing ok i hope. stoned (8)
LOL, too funny... well... its a really long story, but I'll try to keep it short. This being my first grow, if either of my two rooms were my only room, I would draw entirely different conclusion about many things.

The GSC in one room is growing so fast and stretching so hard, that I've had to tip the light rack to a degree I'm not really comfortable with, in an attempt to keep the CFLs close to them and close to the healthy but not stretching Casey Jones next it. This morning I'm going to have to take apart the light rack and redesign it to be able to have the lights on two levels. The GSC don't look like their stretch is going to slow down any time soon... which could get interesting because that is the shorter of my two rooms.

In the other space, that has all the room in the world for them to stretch, they are growing much more slowly. In that room, its the CJ is a little taller, but they are very similar. Since this is all a big experiment, I decided to try something with those girls. I have an LED "shop light", its nothing special but puts out a lot of light, and I decided to run it in that other room with some CFLs to supplement the spectrum. So far they seem happy and healthy, everything seems "normal" to me, considering I've never done this before and other than outdoor vegetable gardens have no real reference for normal.

So, that one stretching GSC is sort of becoming an issue, but other than that, it's all good. Here are some quick pics from this morning -

Rob - Just a suggestion and my .02 and yep I'm ripped. You may want to bring those tall ones down and tuck below the screen. I'm just looking at everything above the net and there are a bunch of potential sites up there. If you were to tuck those branches under the net, and align those bud sites to a square, then all bud sites will end up with the same amount of light. The whole idea is to keep leaves below and buds above.

Don't mean to insult your intelligence. I don't know if this is your 1st grow or 100th. I know I missed some sites. I stole your picture now I'm returning it. LOL

BTW - lookin great!

This is my very first grow, I just have a bad habit of not keeping things simple, so I decided to do two grow rooms instead of one! An experienced member here wisely told me to keep it simple, start with one or two plants and when they were 10-12" tall, switch them to 12/12. Too easy. I had to try and see how long I could veg them and how much I could yield, on my first grow. So, while I might not be smart enough to actually listen, I appreciate all the advice and suggestions I can get. :)

I hear you about bringing the tall tops under the screen, the problem is that unless I can tuck them under -- and then curl them in half circles -- there is no room to do it, and I'm not sure I can do all of that bending without breaking them. I've just run out of horizontal space, if I push them under in straight lines, they would be forced under or outside of the frame where there is no light at all.

They are in flower and its their night-time, so I won't be able to play with them again until 10pm (the lights run 10pm-10am). Later tonight I'll take another look at it. When I thought about trying to gently push/pull them under before, it just seemed like the stems were too thick to be that flexible, but maybe I'll try. At this point I've broken up the lights and the ones over the CJ are hanging about 6" lower, but if things continue as they are, in about 2-3 days that won't be enough.

I've read a little about trimming lower leaves, and then sort of forgot about it. I thought you're supposed to do that when the buds start? It's OK to start now?

Depending on how your screen is connected to the pot or pots, you could lift the whole screen up and over everything then set it back down and at the same time spreading the branches out setting no more than one bud site a square under the net and maybe twist tie the branches to the net. 9 days into flower. It's probably the perfect time to do it if you are going to do it.

or

Let them continue to do what they are doing. Either way you will have nice bud you grew yourself. :weed: :hump:

One way the top buds get all the light. The other way, the lower buds get the same light as the tops creating more usable buds and a heavier harvest.

BTW - Nice first grow. I wish my first grow looked that good.

Just my stoned thoughts...

HLG -- thanks for the insights! You got me thinking. It's a long story, but the way I built the "table" that holds the scrog is bulky and an oddly tight fit for the space, so it can't be lifted -- but that would otherwise be a very good idea! :) My next design will include that capability.

I did think ahead a little when I built it, and I tied off the strings frequently so that if one broke or needed to be removed, the whole thing would not unravel. To that end, I think I'm going to remove the short strings that run along the GSC side. I can't pull the long stems straight down through 2x2 squares, but I could slide them through longer slots, and then I'll try to curl them around in such a way that they don't block each other from the light and they stay put. Then I'll trim the lower stuff.

Thanks again for your suggestions!!! That will totally improve where this is going. :)
