I am currently in veg, this is my 4th grow and I've always switched my lights by adding more hours of darkness at night and what I mean by this is,lights out is 12 am and lights on is 6am for veg and when I switch I shut lights for 24 hours and then I turn them back on the following day at 6am again and instead of leaving them on until 12 set my timer to shut off a 6pm. I always left the 6 a.m. wake up time lights on the same and instead of shutting lights off at 12am I shut them off at 6pm. now I've been doing some thinking and in nature the Sun sets earlier but also rises later so the six hours isn't all one sided it's a little bit at night and a little bit in the morning? so I am wondering if instead of shaving 6 hours off at the end of the day should I do three at night and three in the morning to be more like it is in nature?
outdoors a plant never gets a 24 hour dark period at onset of flower, so trying to mimick outdoors light is out the window already.. changing start and off times wont change efect, 12/12 flowers regardless of on and off times as long as there are no light leeks..i have my lights set to go on at 5pm and off at 5am to keep a cooler room...
i never do a 24 hour dark period before flower either, i go from 20/4,18/6 or 24/0 inveg straight to 12/12..what is the theory on the 24 hour dark before flowering?? ive heard of giving plants full darkness for up to 2 weeks at the end of flower to hault growth and supposedly get more trics, but i have never used a full darkness before or after flower as in nature they would never get full darkness, but then again in nature day light increases and decreases minutes per day never hours..
also ive found the only difference in day time light sceds 18/6,20/4 and 24/0 the only difference ive seen is the more darkness they get the more stretch they get so a plant in 24/0 will have closer nodes wile 18/6 gets stretch between node sets and 20/4 is a good medium closer nodes than 18/6 but a little more distance between than 24/0...
