I personally find Uncle Buck's behavior obnoxious and annoying. He's not about abolishing racism or anything of the sort. His approach and behavior would be completely different if that were true.

1) He`s in it to split the party and give Dems an upper hand advantage throughout.
2) He knows running Independent wont get him a Convention. (H Ross type thing)
