10000 watt of light

High altitude and low humidity plays tricks sometimes- like, it doesn't take quite as much to heat a house in Colorado as it does in New England- at least, at a given temperature. Our temps can fall pretty far, pretty fast though.

For the past four winters, I've been using the heat rejected from my chiller to heat my home. I use chillers for environmental control, so I can place the units wherever I want. One sits in the office and warms the intake air all winter, using heat it's carried away from my grow room. FREE, because I had to get rid of that heat anyway...

That is way cheap.. some guys get all the luck.
$500!!! are you kidding around? In Massachusetts electric is way more expensive than. My friend has a 2000w flower room plus around 450 watts for veg, 8in fan running 24/7, and a dehu and is paying about $400+ a month in electric. Do you have solar power, run a generator or have a windfarm in your yard? haha
Damn that much. I can run just about 2600 watts and my dehumidifier on all the time and fans for about 300.00 little more and that's just the grow room not entire house. My cost is .12 per kWh and what ever random numbers that keep coming after it. And that's if I run 24/7. Which half my lights don't, veg gets 4 hrs rest and flower gets 12 but if I ran all mine 24/7 it wouldn't be much at all. If his bill is 400+ including house etc then not bad. If just the room then I feel bad for what u pay for electric.

Nope not kidding around! (I do get a good rate and got free line installation too - favors for total billing costs of House, Farm, 2 main ops and 2 store fronts.....Each bill is broken down separate to show use per but, it's totaled at the end and yes, differing rates apply per each except the 2 main ops they are billed the same rate).

This is the new personal building - Central AC went "on-line" yesterday (Finally)..

7 1K's (that are running) more to come on line later.
2 1200btu Tripp lite portable AC's
4 8spot T5 banks
3 wall fans
2 intake fans (5 min every hr lights on)
1 70pt Dehumidifier
2 ceiling fans

July bill = $506.37

Now for shock......You should see the bills for the commercial ops!

Very interesting. I just looked up the tripp lite a/c since I'm in the market for new a/c. So this is a portable unit and ducting doesn't need to be run to the window for exhaust or intake? if that the case then I'm sold I have huge bay windows that slide parallel open and close left to right instead of a usual window up and down. So if I get a standup portable a/c I'll have to board the winds and cut 4in holes in the boards. Also another 8in hole to cool my hoods than another 6in hole to exhaust my tent. That would be a huge help if that were the case.

Yea New England is cold, we get cold days here in north jersey but not as bad as you.Same as me had a boiler in basement ran off oil sent hot water and steam to stupid baseboard radiator.House is old isn't all that insulated, let alone updated as far as windows so drafty. So oil was a waste of cash. Space heater keeps everyone's room the way they want and like it and cost a hell of a lot less than what oil was costing me especially since house is so old and doesn't hold heat well. And winter time dinning room/kitchen gets heated by the gas stove which doesn't cost shit to run lol. No central a/c for me. Everyone has there own 5000btu a/c for there room. Why my electric is so high sometimes.
Always be carful with space heaters I'm sure they're safer nowadays but still they are known to cause fires. Still do not feel comfortable enough leaving them on if I'm gone for the day.

They barely run. I'd rather sit in sweats and a hoodie and be warm and comfy, with some nice herbal tea and some smoke. If they do run they on there own circuits and for like an hr or so just a quick heat, and always around nothing to prevent fires. I've read to many stories of people leaving them on or shoving them in a corner or by bed etc. My few beardies and my chameleon heat lamps do a good job at keeping room good for most of the winter depending on how bad it is.

I hear you we had to use them once near our 10x5 tent because it was getting so cold in the winter when lights were off. We were in a basement. We made the mistake of actually putting the space heater in the tent and when lights went on the plants near the heater where canoed and curled. We left outside of the tent after that near the intake and things went fine. Just electric went a lil bit.

Oh no, they exhaust.....They come with a window kit if you need to go that way! BUT they are also 6 inch (true 6 inch) exhaust lines and are way easy to set up for through the wall permanent set up's.....They are now secondary and only one runs in support of the Central unit.....

The REAL nice thing about them is they do "truely" dehumidify but not "collect" condensate.....They pump it right out the exhaust so as not to add any humidity to a server room......These are computer/server room cooling units. I have used then for years and find them FAR longer lasting and of superb quality making them the best choice for grow room supplemental AC cooling.....Roll in / roll out - no water tank to drain condensate from!

The "automatic" setting actually works when you set the temp and it will use High - Med - low fan settings as it requires (fuzzy logic electronic control unit) all the while it will continue to dehumidify when the cooling is not actually running as a "form" of maintaining a temp......So this is one way they make them cheaper then anyone else's to actually run!

TRIPP LITE is the SHIT for portable AC units......LG units would be the ONLY other brand I would consider and only then if I could not get Tripp Lite's

Pay the extra few dollars for the Tripp Lite and you will be really happy!

They make good battery backups, too. Something to consider if you get a lot of power outages.

I was on tripp lites website and when I do get a porable a/c I think I will grab one. They should market to growers seeing as the have a dehu built in. Servers rooms and grow rooms are in a way similar with all are precious electric equipment. I think electric eq that power your grow room is a thing most people look over, being more concerned about plants. You don't want a damp in humid area for your grow the same is to be said about where you house all your ballasts and other electric components. Thanks dr. this is why I come on this site, I learn some new everyday, I would have never known about tripp lite portable a/c and now I do.

Power outage have been bad here in MA the past few years also. It depends on what town you live in and if you have a big provider or a small private town provider. Losing power is always on the back of my mind. 4 years ago a few towns over they lost power for like 10 straight days. uggggg I don't want to think about this anymore. Happy thoughts, good weather

Maybe, but it doesn't have to be expensive; for ebb n flood and RDWC, a spare pump and a timer that runs it for 15 minutes every 4 hours (assuming darkness, perhaps more in a greenhouse) won't over tax a battery backup unit
