First ever wardrobe grow.

Hello everyone! (oh no, another prologue)

Some of you may know me from my current PC grow. I have a seperate thread for that grow. Anyways, after reading a few cabinet/fridge etc. journals and with the help of Tim Fox (cheers) I have come to a conclusion that I must try some "traditional" growing.
Thankfully my sister has "allowed" me to take her old wardrobe (although when asked, she will definitely reply that I took it without her permission). Well it has been in the garage collecting dust for a few years now, so no one is going to miss it. I saw the opportunity and I took it, and in my experience it's best to take that opportunity... if it's there (SNATCH refence- God I love that film).

Anyway, back on track. The wardrobe is about 2.1m tall (6 feet 7 for American growers), 49cm in width (19 inches) and 58cm in depth (23 inches). I am planning on dividing the cabinet into two so I will be utilizing around 1.9m in height.

Now about the parts, they have yet to be ordered, but I will get to it on monday. That is of course, if I decide to do this project. it's just the amount of weed you can end up with kind of overwhelmes me.

LIGHTS: since I still consider myself a noob at growing I'll stick with the "simple", yet effective HPS lamps. 250W to be precise as I believe 400W could be an overkill in such a small space. Oh yes, about the space, after a hard time of converting cm to feet I have calculated that the grow space is 3 square feet (I hope I'm not wrong), so 250W should be more than enough. I can always hang a few cfls to the sides to boost the amount of lumens.
The lamp itself is a dual spectrum perfect for the veg and bloom stages.

FAN(S): I'm buying a simple 20W fan, 280 m3/h, 150mm. That should be enough for changing the air. I've decided to try out a passive intake, so that means no fans pulling air IN, just one OUT.

FILTER: as for now I won't be buying any carbon filters, although it will be a must during flowering. That's why any time before I flip to 12/12 I'll get one and install it.

REFLECTIVITY: now this one is really grinding my gears. I have no idea whether I should get some good ol' mylar or paint the insides white. I have seen grows where mylar was replaced by white paint, and the results were fantastic. Problem is, I have no idea what kind of paint to use. I have some that is used as a primer/base in case one would want to paint the walls another colour. I'm sure that would work? Any help would be much appreciated.

ACCESSORIES: I'll be using a fan regulator sine I don't want the electricity bill to fire up. The fan doesn't HAVE to run on full power all the time, especially during the first stages and at night. I'm sure this gadget will come in handy.

Timers/power strips are a must, of course.

Apart from all that was mentioned I don't think I have missed anything. I'm really excited with the whole project, I love these kind of projects even though I'm not really handy.

Maybe a little something on what I have planned for the plant(s). On this run, I'm going to try some mainlining. Why? Because the result looks so amazing, 8 or even more jakced "bottle" tops.

Now, I am still thinking on how many plants I should do... I probably could fit around two inside, but because of the inconvenient shape of the wardrobe, it will be a bit hard to get to the second plant behind the first one. Although I don't think that will be much of a problem... if there is a will there is a way.

What are your thoughts on this?

As for the nutes, I'll be using some good old bio-bizz products. They do a great job and they are 100% organic, so I'm content with that. As for the soil, I'll be using bio-bizz all mix. It's apparently loaded with nutes so I won't be adding any ferts for a few weeks.

sweet wardrobe, almost reminds of a big high school gym locker, only a little bigger, dig the height man, everything your lining up sounds great, along for this ride

Hey on my next grow I am thinking about putting 2 plants in one really big container for the soil, and letting the roots just mingle with each other,, lots of hydro guys do it with no problems, then you can just slide the container in and if you need to slide the the plants out, especially since you wont be in a scrog, just grab the growing pot and slide it out as a whole,, what ya think?
Edit, unless you were thinking hydro?,,I should have asked

Thanks a lot Tim. I hope everything will work, the parts will be ordered tomorrow, so I have my hands tied at the moment. I can't even cut any holes for the fans etc.

That's actually a fantastic idea Tim! haha, that would really help me out thanks lot for the idea.

I'l definitely have my eye on some huge containers the next time I visit a DIY shop. Hmm... the containter itself would have to be around 10 gal no? Just to be safe.

No, no hydro for me at this moment. Heard it's actually a much better way of growing and it looks stunning. Although I have to admit the whole apparatus looks completely alien to me. BUT I will definitely try some hydro one day. Maybe when I finish this grow.

So I've coated the panels three times with white paint. Again, I hope I used the right one because in Poland no one knows what "flat" paint is... it's called matte paint sometimes, so that's what I bought.
I can always buy some mylar if I change my mind. + the hood for the HPS has the best refectivity out there so I'm not that worried.

In a few hours I'll cut a 150mm hole in the top panel for the fan and put the whole thing together.

Matte finish paint is the same thing as flat.

Glad to be able to help. I just finished putting three coats of flat / matte white inside of my 'new' cabinet last night. Although, I'll most likely wind up lining the walls with those car windshield sun shades.

I'm using those shades in my PC box. Cheaper than mylar I must say, but I've heard their reflectivity isn't so good. Better than nothing anyway.

You've got me interested so I'll be watching. I'm working on my first time grow and had been reading about everyone using mylar to line their box's, but no one mentioned where they got their mylar. Everything I found for sale was by the roll, way more material than I needed, and expensive. I'm not sure how well it's going to work, but my solution was to go to Walmart, buy a few uninflated mylar balloons at just over $1 each. Once I cut the edge seams off and turned the balloons inside out, it gave me about 3 square feet of usable mylar from each balloon. Throw in a can of spray contact cement and I had my box covered in mylar for less than $10. I'm not sure how well this is going to work, but time will tell I guess.

Matte paint is perfect, get any plastic container you can find that fits, make it six to ten gallons for two plants, get really good potting soil, and you will be good, any storage type container from Walmart or home depot will work drill holes in the bottom set the container on its lid to catch runoff , paint the container so light can't get to the roots if it is see thru

You know, the problem in Poland is that no one knows what mylar is, and I don't have the luxary of going to my nearby store and buying it myself (seriously I envy you guys so much for Walmart). Mylar is only available on online shops dedicated to growing "plants", but everyone knows they sell specialized items for growing cannabis. So by purchasing items online I have to pay for the shipping as well, so everything comes down to being more expensive than it actually should be.

But you had a good idea with those balloons, nice one. I'm sure it's going to work out, keep us posted.

I'm going to get some Bio-bizz all mix soil. It's loaded to the brim with nutrients so I hope my seedlings won't be affected (although I have heard fox farm soil is jam packed with nutes as well and people have no problems, unless of course they start adding ferts). But I can therefore lay off any types of nutes for a few weeks (hoping my girl will grow faster with the soil, fingers crossed).

The container idea i brilliant, but I'm still going to have to sleep on it. If I play my cards right one plant could give me lots'a weed.

oh yes there are guys in the led section who harvest 1 pound from single plant grows in 2.5 x 2.5 feet footprint,
your right on about the soil, makes it really easy, just ad water and make sure the light is turning on and off, and the fan is running, a quick look at the temp gauge,, and close the door easy breezy
