GRAYS FERRY (WPVI) --
If you feel like this year has been an especially violent one in the City of Brotherly Love, you're right.

The explosion of gunfire this summer has been stunning.

On recent nights in South Philadelphia's Point Breeze and Grays Ferry neighborhoods, dozens and dozens of shots have been fired, leaving many wounded and innocent bystanders terrified.

One resident, Sal, tells us, "You can hear 'em. You know? But the sad part about it is the innocent people that get caught in the crossfire. And they're making you scared to even come out your house. You know, I got a wife, I got two kids."

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey says, "We've had a little uptick in some gang activity - particularly in South Philadelphia with some shootings and so forth. And we're looking into the people that are responsible for that."

Citywide the murder and violence rate is running significantly ahead of last year's. 692 people have been shot so far this year - 161 murdered.

I know cali and philly, Stockton can't hold a candle to North philly /Camden as far as danger. And Stockton ain't no joke!
well if you say it's worse that south stockton thats pretty fucking bad. I really want to move where my friend lived. all I know it's by a cheese steak place called steves. I thought he said it was malberry or something like that. it was close to the mall and close to this new casino. I won 5 grand at that casino on a slot

My wife is from NJ, which ain't the greatest, but it has 1 city that is historical for violence and slums and bums, and that city is Newark, NJ, and she said she would rather live in Newark than Philly. Plus the Phillies suck.

No way I'd rather live in Newark than Philly. Philly, like most major cities, has it's shit holes, don't get it twisted, but it also has some really nice areas as well. Old town, queens village, northern liberties so on and so on.
Ime, if you're not hanging out in the hood you're pretty much safe.. Camden which is right across the bridge, not a safe area to be had in the entire shit hole..

Btw, hope you like losing sports teams as Philly has plenty to pick from..
