Haven't been feeling good the last week or so and I haven't worked on it. I've been busy during the day and just don't have the energy at night. I'll need it soon so I need to get going on it.

Well I got some work done on the light today thanks to Limosnero. We were talking about his new light today and it got me motivated even tho I'm still not feeling real good. It's ready for Cob installation tomorrow and I made a plastic templet to apply the thermal paste. I can screw it to the heatsink then use a single edge razor to spread the paste evenly,hope it works good.

What drivers are those you are using?
what grit did you finish at ?

Generic JHX driver that puts out 800 ma. at 90-91% efficiency.
I used 120 and 240 with my new grinder then wet sanded with 400 were the COBs go. I'm driving soft so I didn't think any finer was needed.

Thought I would put up instructions for my templet to apply paste for CXB3590's using the IDeal solderless holders.
I made a new one with a slightly smaller area for paste because quite a bit squeezed out with my first one.
Pictures pretty much show everything,1.97" between the holes and 1.125" square hole cut for paste.
I used the razor shown to make the templet and spread the paste and the compass point to mark the screw holes.
With a flattened heatsink the sour cream lid is plenty thick,if your HS is not perfectly flat you may need a slightly thicker templet.
Forgot to mention that I used the screws to align the templet then taped it to the HS and removed the screws then applied the paste.

Have you measured the thickness of the sour cream lid with a digital caliper. Sounds like it would be pretty thick and apply more paste then what's necessary.

My first templet was made from a potato salad lid and is slightly thicker so I think the sour cream lid should with the slightly smaller hole should work fine,I can try it out and see how it works and post my thoughts.

It will work no doubt, I am just curious as to the thickness of the material. You may be just applying more paste then what's necessary that's all. Thinner the better (to a certain point)

I remembered that I had some feeler gages so I checked the thickness,the PS lid is .025" and the SC lid is .020" so it should work great but I'll try the new one out to make sure.

.003-.005 should be plenty of thermal paste according to Arctic Silver website. Which is about the thickness of 20lb printer paper.

Yes I know that,I use to overclock CPU's and video cards. That's why the hole is smaller than the COB so the excess can squeeze out. I think it will actually be thinner than the amount they pre apply on the Arctic coolers with the new templet.

Either way I think a thin spread is better then the pea method many overclockers tend to use

With my 3070's I did a small bead from corner to corner in a X with a dot in the center,very quick and easy but the 3590's are too big for that without wasting a lot of paste.
