Harvesting tops first.

has anyone ever harvest the top half of all their plants and let the lowers grow a while? does it add weight to your harvest?

I do harvest only the size able buds first...next week I do it again.some times I wait so long to harvest the plant will re veg for the next several months and than do the same thing. These were plants in a greenhouse. They went thru a black out period of 20 days in july, got tired of the cover thing and let em go...they stayed in flower and I cut the buds in the middle of september

do you see any difference in yield or is it just maturity that's gained?

I almost always sectionally harvest my plants in 3 separate cuttings, sometimes 2, but I'm also growing outdoor. I believe I gain some yield from doing it. All the inner and lower buds fatten and frost up so I get more uniform looking buds. I'm not sure what's the difference in weight, but I read some guys on icmag that said it increased their yield by 10% if I remember correctly. They were also growing BIG plants outdoors so I'm not sure if it would be the same for indoor, but I don't see why it wouldn't be. At minimum you should get more frostier, fatter, mature inner/lower buds. Let us know how it goes if you try it.

I'm going to try it. I h ave 27 plants veged for 6 weeks in 7 gallon pots under 6, 600 hps hortilux. you would think it would work better for indoor actualy.

I read on another forum that if you cut off the top half of buds the bottom half will grow out more buds. The guy seemed to suggest that you shouldn't take off more than the top half of them though or you get worse results. I guess experimentation would need to be done.

Sometimes I go through and take tops then get the rest a few days later. Hard to say if it adds yield... The nugs finish and get more dense so I would say.. Probably a better yield? If your looking for less larf just clean up the bottoms a little bit better around end of week 2 in flower. I do this and then when I harvest everything that has structure gets put in the bag . If it's airy larf I will hash pile it.. But for the most part, every nug ends up in the turkey. I have plenty of friends that give me shit about lol

I guess the question you'll get to answer hopefully is whether it's worth it to set your next crop a week back for possibly 10% better yields and better looking lower and inner buds. It'll be interesting to see what you think is better.
