Carbon Tax

Cut foreign Aid by 50%
Cut defense spending 50%

Spend billions domestically to produce green energy and create jobs.

Industrial hemp should have replaced paper pulp and corn for bio fuel.

That's a start
Biodigesters. Put water, straw and pigshit in one end and out the other end comes high grade composted fertilizer that's a damned sight more environmentally friendly than the above mentioned inputs...

PLUS, it generates heat while doing it so it could provide low grade heating for buildings, sheds, barns, etc.

PLUS, it makes methane... aka natural gas. Burn it to make heat or run it through a fuel cell to generate electricity while it also cogenerates useful heat.

This is the bridge to an energy and food secure future for everyone. It's the only feasible option that has a long term future.

The entire country's production of solar might add up to this, but it definitely is not just Texan solar panels making that kind of power. Yet.
I still think we haven't even found the tip of harnessing the suns power. What we have now isn't a viable solution but that doesn't mean we can't eventually get there. I'm not a fan of picking companies to dump research money into based on campaign contributions though.

That's another factor that is going to make any change really difficult. Other than China and India of course, but with viable solar, they'd follow.

I also think we should look at the progress other developed countries have made in nuclear and stop being so scared of it here.

Niagra Falls powers a good portion of the Eastern seaboard up there, so we know what harnessing the power of water can do and have for a long time.

Wind is another naturally occurring power source.

All of the above is tough sell. It's easier to laser focus in one direction but there is not one solution that will replace fossil fuel.

Yeah..I'm all hashed out ..that came out all wrong.. It was more like Solar in Texas cuts the peak by 55% or something.

Make sure your fossil fuel burning car is properly tuned up might be my favorite "solution" you posted.

There are many band-aid solutions, how do we get China and India involved. We can cut our greenhouse gases to zero re: our own fossil fuel burning output and it barely makes a dent.

Some of those are things we should definitely be pursuing though, nice one pad. Some, like stopping the deforestation might be the biggest solution offered. Wish we had the power to do that over the rain forest.

Solution to mggw, stop burning fossil fuels and cutting down trees. It's so simple. Now how do we make that happen? Worldwide....
Just like I said, the people in that 14% won't accept any solution as valid no matter what

Nuclear is no good... I'm against nuclear everything.

Chernobyl or The Japanese plant should scare the hell out of anyone.

What France is doing with it should give everyone hope.

We still use the same plants that were built in the 60's. Nothing re: nuclear in this country is modern so your fears are justified. I'd like to see us upgrade our shit before we have a major accident.

The Fermi II plant in MI powers the southeastern part of the state. Shut that down and you'll have to replace it with coal burning electricity plants.

We can do better but we are not allowed to. Seems counter-productive to say it's not safe, but we are going to continue to use the 50 year old plants because it's the best we have.

New technology has been invented while Obama has been in office. We have enough gas and oil in this country to be energy independent for at least a century. Obama won't allow it. He would rather have Warren Buffet railroad it in.

I just believe that its foolish to think you can truly make anything Seismic or Tornado proof... The plants 40 miles outside Chicago are along a fault line. Wtf ?

I felt a quake here in Michigan last year... Ya just never know..The amount of potential damage is too devastating to mess with.

Yeah, we do dumb stuff for political reasons in this country.

To beat the dead nuclear horse some more...

A healthy fear and respect is necessary when dealing with nuclear energy. What's unhealthy is the irrational fear and the politics we've allowed that have followed. We fear nuclear energy, but where it's used is the most efficient alternative so we keep using 50 year old plants. That doesn't make sense.

In the mean time, we are going to use the oil we use until a viable replacement is found. Blocking things like the Keystone pipeline and still getting oil from anywhere but north america doesn't make sense either.

We don't like nuclear energy; we are still going to use it, we just refuse to use any new technology or replace the old outdated plants.

We don't like oil; we are still going to use it, we are just going to buy it from other countries and fight many wars while we sit on our own because we really wish we wouldn't use it.

Oh yeah? It's only the Obama administration that "refuses to allow new technologies for energy" to come through? Do you really really want to say that's just purely Obama? This isn't a defense, this is just calling out your statement for what it is: a half truth.

I'm not the only one who knows that you claim to put UB on ignore only to reply...Please STFU
Really that is easy to do. I personally don't auto log in.
And Denmark, and Wyoming, and and and...

There's a windmill manufacturing plant forty miles from my doorstep. It's running at full capacity. Trainloads of blades, generator shacks and towers roll through town on a weekly basis.

Sorry, but the tech works and it's making cheaper power than coal IN WYOMING, the number two state for coal mining in the entire country. Yes, they have power plants sitting right next to the mines and wind power is STILL cheaper.
Yeah, ok, so when can I plant one in my backyard and run my house on it? 20-50 years from now? Ok great, so for the next 20-50 years it sucks.

I'm with you on everything but the Carbon Tax. I don't trust it and what we are saying is we don't like what you are doing to our ecology so we are going to charge you for doing it instead of stopping you, and give your money to the people of our choosing.

I am glad that progressives realize you can tax an industry out of business though. That should help when we try to figure out why so many companies are going over seas.

They wouldn't go overseas if we told them if they do, they can't do business in America

What about ALL those companies who have already gone overseas? What about companies that have products made over seas? Will Ipads and Nike be illegal to import?

lol

yeah, try that, let's isolate ourselves from the rest of the world, that'll fix our economy. We would surely be promoting all types of advancements that way too, new businesses would be lining up to open in our country.

There would be no black market for those cool things we used to be able to get but can't anymore, so you wouldn't be creating a new crop of criminals either.

That's first level thinking Pad.

They will magically come back because.. well because that's why. No more imports or exports is excellent strategy when competing in a global economy.

It did feel shitty when we bailed out GM so they could expand in Mexico. Maybe if we didn't let them sell cars here though, they would stop. Stop using foreign parts too, those weren't built here.

A lot of fruit and veggies will no longer be available, but our farmers will be able to grow during the winter to make up for it.
