if you use the search button youll find lots of people paranoid and almost no one getting dinged for it
the electric company doesnt care, there could be hundreds of reasons aside from growing that youre electric bill is now higher
few red flags here
1. whos house is it? your landlords? are oyu renting? or are you staying with friends?

if that grow is found, youre not only in trouble but so is the other people living in that house!

also renting and growing in the same place bad idea. if youre friends does not own the house be aware:
your landlord may have 24 hours before showing up unless its an emergency and than they can walk into your house without your knowledge or want, and look around should they so please
it is also their house and most will not be cool with an illegal grow op therefore you are putting yourself and your friend at risk for being evicted.

we've seen this question a thousand times, we've been there done that
youll eventually fight over the grow itself, the harvest, or if for some god awful reason you get caught and they turn you over

The second I moved into my place all electrical appliances where on.. Loud music ceramic heaters the works.. Then once the room was set up I tuned a bunch of shit off.. My electrical bill has been stable the whole time I've been here.
Come to find out they don't give a fuck haha just want their money, if you don't pay they may look into it, by that I mean they send you warning.
So just be on time.

I had a friend in the 70's I grew with outdoors. With seeds we had and the latitude neither of us would have ripped the other off. It was that bad. Grow bad weed.

Well, IF you are growing for your own use and not to illegally resell, then your electrical use really shouldn't be an issue at all. I mean, unless both of you do nothing else but sit around all day long and smoke gigantic Cheech and Chong size joints, and your personal use is…let's say…"discrete"…. and not "about a pound" per month (lol…inside joke)...then your electrical use will not be that great.
I like to start my ANNUAL seed-run of 6 plants (max) in September and allow the plants to veg through November. That's when there are fewest bugs flying in the air and also when the day/night temperature differential is the widest. Then they flower for up to 120 days -usually have everything down and in jars by the end of February. This amount, grown well, can easily last me through the year -easily!
This timeframe also coincides with the furnace being on more and longer hot showers in the morning….more "oven baked" foods because of the cold, winter temps….So, basically, everyone's electrical bills go up around this time for the same reasons….unless you live in Florida or something!
And it's also not like there are government spies watching for high electrical bills, anyway. Just pay your bills on time; Don't be a trashy neighbor and attract attention to yourself in any kind of bad way. Don't have parties. No loud music. Don't have lots of "friends" coming in and out of your house all day and night….Etc. Keep your lawn mowed. Don't sit on your porch in a tie-dye shirt, smoking and "advertising" that you are a head. Present yourself and your property in a "non-pothead" kind of way. If you become the neighborhood "suspects" by way of inviting trouble to your door…and you're in an illegal state…then , well….you'll learn the hard way.
The best advice I can give you id to move to a legal state and do your thing. Barring that as an option, you just have to be really, really careful. But your electrical bill shouldn't be a problem -unless, like I say, you're trying to create an illegal drug-dealing operation and growing a lot of plants and using a lot of electricity in the process.

What lighting are you going to use? I could turn my pc off, run a 400w grow (+ fans) and my power consumption would actually go down. Like Indagrow also mentioned, if you turn shit off to compensate, the power company won't see any/much changes to your usage. That is of course unless you're going to run a couple 1000 watters or something. That's like running a toaster/kettle/coffee machine constantly and it will be noticeable. A 600w grow or less you could easily just say you both have a desktop computer running all the time.

I grow in a high rise condo , in a high density urban area. Presenting yourself as a law abiding , non pot smoking citizen goes a long way towards maintaining discreation. My grow has been seen by maintenance workers and they seem shocked that I have such a dedicated garden area. They all say the same thing, " I would of never guessed, wow, you can't even smell it"
