Air intake question

I am trying to get a handle on the hear from my new 315 lec light in my small area...2.5'x2.5'x5.5'.

I just upgraded from a 4" 150 cfm Vortex fan to a 6" 315 cfm Hyper Fan. I'll need to get a bigger charcoal filter. I tried running a reducer to the 4" filter but it howled a little too loud for my liking.
I have a hard sided grow space.

Questions are...What size intake port do I need? More than 6" diameter intake port to get maximum airflow?

its not a good idea to reduce to filter, or expand to one either. The filter size should be matched to the proper CFM rating of the fan and will almost always share the same duct size, the filter manufacturer should have this information available. The charcoal requires a certain contact time with the air to properly scrub it of odor, in your case you had an oversized fan which probably drew the air through the filter too fast, you can get a variable speed fan controller to slow it down.

Your intake hole should be 1.5-2x the size of your exhaust.

Your original fan is adequate for your small tent size, any reason you went overkill on the new 315 CFM?

Even i had a 4" inline fan with a carbon filter and duct muffler in my 3x3 and sucked in and pushed out alot of air running through my old 400w hid kit and cooltube. No need to overkill in that small tent, you'll need a fan speed controller, but your hyper fan should of automatically came with one as a factory controller. You will need to ziptie a 1"x4" plywood or trim halfway up the tent running horizontally if you are not using a controller, this will help from too much suction on the walls and creating alot of negative pressure on the plants..
