first thing to do is calm down
1 the timer is simple
look at the numbers .........they are the time of the day
push down the tabs for 12hours .........7 am to 7 pm(tabs down power on tabs up power off)
2 look at the clock see what time it is then turn the dial untill the arrow is pointed near the right time (will not be extact with in 10/15mins is cool)
3 plug it in plug the lights into that .........on the side is a button u want it to be showing a clock the other is a power botton icon (clock means the timer is on power icon means it is always on )

Digital timers can be a pain because of the option for multiple configurations , analog is pretty simple . But all else fails you can leave lights on or off without a major set back only being 5 days in flowering as you probably haven't even showed sex yet.

he is a new grower we all flipped out about something
when i got help that was the first thing i was told
Calm Down the plants will be ok
plus 5 days into flowering ......not a big deal if he decided to do 24/0 on it he lost a 5 day flower

a simple 24 hour timer u just need a 12/12 ..........it would be best to do it at night so the temps are more stable but if u do not have light proofing then running during the day is better

it is one of those 7 day programmable one ppl use when they leave the house for vacation for 2 weeks
makes the lights come on and off so looks like ppl are there
i never had it to play with so no idea what the button codes are tho
