It makes for an interesting choice between using various colors when considering umol/j and efficiency, although most overall photon counts have come close to one another between the 3000~4000K flavors of, say the Vero make, which leaves the quantity of given wavelengths the remaining factor in deciding which flavor will theoretically work better than another.

agree but it is still, mostly theory [picking the most plausible guess] and there is a LOT of work still needing to be done and that's why we need a standardized ypf and ypfd imho

Talk to me about a sunrise sunset. I know the usefulness of the sunset timer (if using 730nm), but what do you do for sunrise?

This is a question I've been pondering myself..

From my readings, both blue and red light are used by the plant to help regulate circadian rhythms and "wake up". Red light (660 nm) much more so.
Blue light stimulates cryptochromes and is used during phototropism in anticipation of daylight, as well as stomata opening in preparation for some full blown photosynthesizing.

I wonder what a small amount of blue light would do say 15-30 mintues before lights on? Similar to the horizon before the sun crests it. Then maybe 5-10 min of red light just before lights on as well.

Could emulating sunrise wake the plants up faster, much like emulating sunset puts them to "sleep"? Curious.

I've thought of this as well. I have heard of someone doing this, but I haven't seen anything he's put out since we talked about it. Is there even the same wake up period before the light is absorbed?

@Greengenes707 those flat lenses you shown for the ledil reflectors, are they custom made? or are they available to everyone?

Amare lenses suck. At least the ones I have. I dont know if they changed them since I got the tester lamp. I use just the reflectors. I dont use the lenses. I have 90 and 120 degree and they're both pretty thick.

The cobs are cxa 2530. I want to throw some cxb 3070 in there.
