I'm using a tent for the first time and was hoping to get some input on fixture style with 2x 600 hps... I'd really like to go with open bulbs ..

If you've enough fans n ventilation on point go for it.id suggest running em first in an empty tent n see how she fairs

I ran 1 open tube 600 watt mh in my room and it raised my temps by 5 degrees F. With 2 440 cfm fans extracting the heat. It actually amazed me how hott those bulbs can actually get.

That is overkill in a 4x4, with open reflectors you will have problems fighting with heat. 100 watts per plant is enough. I'm currently running an open 400w mh, which contributes to most of the heat in my 4x4, and also have a 315w cmh which runs somewhat cooler so a total of 715w, don't use an intake or an exhaust. Gonna throw the 400 out in the street and buy another 315w fixture.

You could also cut the top of your tent off and blow the heat up from the floor, lol

You know I've thought about putting a fan in the center of a manifolded plant with a bare bulb in the center, air blowing upward and extraction fan above that. Dunno how well it would work but I might be able to get away with it.

Also keep in mind that you would do better with one 600 per tent, look up the point of light saturation. Plants cam only photo synthesize so much light

done it before and it works really well
don't seem to get much heat off a vertcal bulb compaired to a open hood as all the heat never has a chance to build up
a hood traps the heat and it gets very hot

not a problem running 2 600w hps in a 4ft x 4ft tent but to keep the temps low you would need to use 2 x 8" air cooled tubes vertcal in the centre of the room with a 8" ruck fan pulling cool air in one side of the tent and out the other side though 8"ducting, aircooled tube ducting and out the other side
you would need to grow the plants 4-5ft tall to pull the best yeild
open hood or aircooled hood could not keep 2 600w cool in that size room, just too much trapped heat

Ive seen 2x600w in a 4x4x7 setup 2 vertical cooltubes 6in fan. Worked very well but was harder to manage than a regular setup. 2x600w isn't too much in a 4x4 in my opinion.

Personally i would stick with 1 600w or step up to a 1000w. You could get a strain that likes warmer temps and run co2. Then you could manage temps in the upper 80s to low 90s.

i plan on running a 600 watt bulb only, connected to a mogul socket, 6" in inline fan sucking air out at the top of the box, AND either passive intake, or 6" squirrel fan pulling air in,
my box is outside though, and ill have winter temps for the next 3 to 4 months, so im not too worried about temps, ill be running the lights at night.

The flower room looks a little small
so is that 4ft wide x 4ft long and how high is it ?
just looks to short could have a few problems if you have less than 5 ft because you lose 10 inches for the plant pot and lose about 2ft (hang light and the 18" gap between canopy and the hood)
so in a 5ft high room you can only grow plants 2ft high

Due to electrical problems I've decided to turn this into a super cfl box. First time building a box and using CFls so let's see how it goes, I'll be getting a fan speed controller for the 6" since I believe it will be over kill. Let me know what you think,
Also will be adding vertical CFls alon the back of the box for the side branches.
