I'm talking like 6 on 2 off 3 times in a 24 hr period during veg. Anybody ever tried shorter alternating periods of light/dark?
I know I'll catch some shit about it and that's ok. I was just wondering if anyone has ever tried it. If not, I think I'll give it a shot on some of my clones just for shits and giggles.
Thanks in advance.
Just to see the difference in root and foliage growth. Roots are said to grow more during night, though I can't say that's my experience, so I just wanted to see if short spurts of darkness would stimulate root growth more or less and how it would effect foliage growth as well.
I'm thinking it could possibly create a more structured plant, though I could definitely be wrong. It's just a thought I had and couldn't find any info. Curiosity is all.
The answer covers both of these thoughts.
Your going to run into all sorts of problems simply due to the fact that Cannabis takes about 2 hrs to actually get to a "night" mode after exposure to certain Light nm (nanometer) bands.....The 730nm band of deep reds initiates this transition period. During that time the plant is not really growing or doing it's night time changing of cellular peptides back to the daytime cell structure. It's simply changing from one state to another.
This day to night thing can be speed up by exposing your plants to this 730nm band of light by special LEDs that are stupidly expensive.....I've tried it. It ain't worth it as far as returns vs investment.....
I could go on with all sorts of science involved as to this plant change and why it does it.....But what you need to know is that shortened lights out time of the type you suggest will simply weaken the plant.
There are also a cpl of us here that did the reduced lights on time in flower. Down too that 6 on thing. You will reduce yields by about 28 - 30% and this is a firm number you WILL loose! When you drop below 9-10 on your yield begins to suffer....
I run cuttings at 24
seedlings at 20 and as soon as they are out of solo's 18/6.
I bloom at 11/13 - 12/12 causes too much instability in my book ie herming.
Play if you like but now you know and wasting time and effort is dumb if know the answer.
