Hey, I've been to Nicaragua and I loved it !

About your roots and all the questioning on them, why don't you just pop the plant out of the pot and take a peek? I always do this at least once before transplanting. It also allows me to closely examine the roots.

It's easier done when the medium has dried (just before watering). I squeeze the sides of the pot to release it from the root/medium "cake", flip the whole plant on its side or completely upside down, and gently pull the pot away while also pulling on the stem.

It may sound like a delicate and risky procedure, but in practice, it's really not. You won't damage the root mass unless you leave the plant like this for an extended period of time (also don't expose roots to direct sunlight...). The worst that can happen is to create a huge mess. I eventually got better at it

Thanks a bunch, i watered her this morning and it seems like she is leveling out now, hope i didn't stress her out too much, i will transplant tonight tomorrow, depending on how fast the medium dries out a little, and will post pics one i check the roots!

Also, it seems lava rock and perlite can substitute each others. So If you have lava rock in your region, no need for perlite since it does the same thing (root aeration).

i've seen roots hit bottom of pot in 24-48 hours, so thats out the window. pop it out of the pot n look at the roots.

I transplant only once, from seedling to final pot as soon as possible, like 2 weeks after sprout. No need to go from container to container, only adds shock to the roots. I use only 3 gallon pots, as I use the 1 gallon per month of grow rule. (toss you 1 gallon pots/don't waste area on 5 gallon pots) You can get perlite (or vermiculite) mail order from Amazon, but most potting mixes have enough perlite in it. As mentioned above some gravel on bottom of pot would be recommended, and some coco coir (if available) mixed in the soil to aerate it is a good thing also. Good luck

Great, well that solves that, i have like 15% lava rock in there, the finest i could get out of the gigantic sack i had to buy... Watered the girl this morning, bottom leaves seemed to appreciate it but the top leaves started doing the fold over bear claw thing... or maybe she just got watered and i should chill and let her be.

the 1 gallon pot is ready for her, 20% lava rock and then 5050 on the soil and compost fertilizer, i would go 3 gallons but i don't think ill run a plant that big this time, its my first and i want to just see the process before busting out bigger plants!

What do you think?

If you go for the 1 gallon pot, I would begin to flower ASAP. Sunrise@6:10AM & sunset@5:45PM? Just put it outside under the Sun!

ok then, its going to be a small plant but bag seed plus shitty growing space, no nutes i really just wanted to learn this go for the future when things are better planned out.

I have this security guard where i live so i can't put her outside, wish i could the weather here this time of year is breezy and 85 degrees and sunny all day every day, no rain for 3-4 months still

she is about 2 weeks out of seedling, just under a month from germinating the seed, she is in a mix of soil i found here in nicaragua, organic compost fertilizer and some fine lava rock.

Being in a third world country people look at me funny when i ask for perlite.

I see some roots that have peeked out the bottom, but i have a little base of lava rock at the bottom of the pot too.

I don't need her to be huge, its my first run and these are bag seed so if she is a foot at the flip ill be happy, maybe foot and a bit i dunno really.

I think its cool youre growing in a 3rd world country.

Do yourself a favor and chuck that white pot, your roots will thank you.

Transplant when soil is moist not dry, dry soil crumbles when transplanting exposing the roots.

B4L thanks man, just what i thought, I've got the next pot ready just waiting for the soil to dry a little bit as i watered this morning, i guess tomorrow morning should work!
