Well with a 6 x cxb3070 order, with shipping and discount that's 282 AUD which is 200 USD. So $34 per cob shipped.

I probably wouldn't bother with lenses or reflectors unless you needed less spread. And my cobs get the arctic silver 5 + kapton tape treatment with sloppy soldering and wires hanging out lol.

Wow! Thanks for that calculation. I just had a sense but you've clearly spelled it out.

As this is a personal grow and my usage is so light, it just doesn't make sense to go deep and get the highest end stuff but get what's adequate and will do the job.

Where did you see the 3070's at $32? I've seen $44.
with 3070s you can run at a lower current and get about the same or better efficiency as a 3590. For the same amount of light, you will need more 3070s than 3590s. There is a pricing sweet spot in there depending on what pricing you can get.

I've seen that you've posted that in another thread, primarily why I decided to go with the 3070 thank you. Instead of a 4 cob fixture of 3590 which I see as being good to the minimum I'd go for my space, I figured I'd create a 6, potentially 7, cob fixture with 2, mw 1050a drivers at a lower current and that would be much better. (I don't honestly know if this is viable but I'm trying)

Should I get dimmable drivers??

Please understand I have no idea what I'm doing and am just regurgitating what you and others have said. Let me know if I'm off track. Thanks!

dimming is a usefull feature. I recommend the HLG meanwells, and they offer 3 different ways to do dimming.

CXB590 is more efficient than cxb3070 ie less heat, and thats your goal right?
Also 8-10% more efficient means 8-10% more bud from the same space, pays for itself in one grow I would think

One of meanwell HLG-185H-C1050a or HLG-185H-C700a.
So I was gonna get two, running 3 each regardless. Do you have a recommendation on what would be the best way to go? i get the sense I don't want to over do it too much...find a sweet spot.

I don't know that I've seen anything to suggest that 8 to 10% more lighting efficiency would equate to the same in bud production but I'm still a neophyte. That just seems like a bit of a stretch to me...am I wrong??

I know this might sound strange but I need a little heat in the box just not 400w worth lol.

There is still heat believe me, just not as much.
If the heat isnt enough, I reverse the exhaust top fan to an intake and temp raises to nice level.

I am not the best grower all dialed in, but others have stated the increase directly to yield

not sure what your saying.
1 hlg-185h-700a will provide ~200 watts with 8 cxb3070s.
1 hlg-185h-1050a will provide ~200 watts with 5 cxb3070s.

In a 2.5' X 2.5', One will give you the minimum of 30 watts per square foot.
two units will max you out at 60 watts, overkill.

That is a great tip...lol I never would've thought of that! Thanks!

I clearly don't know what I'm talking about so...

How many wpsf would the 700a would with 6 cob's?
How many wpsf would the 1050a would with 6 cob's?

What is the calculation for this? Thanks so much for your patience with me...I'm humbled yet again...

I can't understand it. It seems like there will always be a large percentage of the population who are afraid of change, and threatened by dreams and visions of improvement.

6 cxb3070 @ .7A gets you ~650ppfd in a 2.5'x2.5' 141watts

6 cxb3070 @ 1.05A gets ~930ppfd in a 2.5'x2.5' 218watts

@bassman999 with cxb3590 vs cxb3070, you have to think of missed oportunity costs as well. For Op's 6 cobs, it's $102 more for 3590 over 3070. For that amount of money you could buy an extra 3070 which more than makes up the light output difference, and you're still left with an extra $70 saved. Put that towards electricity and you can run that extra cob @ 1.4A for free for about 18 months @ 18/6. By then we're all probably upgrading to cxb6599s with thier 30,000lumens or whatever crazy shit they have out by then.
