Apologies.

I inadvertently derailed topic when I questioned "Only a few place in the world will plants actually get uvb outside". Actually the opposite seems to be true

Back on topic:

Would a pair of these 10w 730-740 chips be appropriate to trigger flower initiation (am i understanding correctly?) Or would it be overkill for a 26" x 50" layout? I am interested in an elegant, minimalist engine that i could rig separate from my light bar.View attachment 3613340

Nice, I proved you wrong again.

Not to get in the middle of this, and for the sake of learning and clarification ...

But it seems that everything posted about UV-B exposure lends to the idea that UV-B radiation affects the entire planet as a whole, with different levels of exposure depending on several variables.

Instead of posting more links to scholarly articles, can you discuss what you were implying by this statement?

Only a few place in the world will plants actually get uvb outside. Pretty much where the hole in the ozone layer is.

I see proof of your compulsive need to avoid all challenges to your idiot dogma.

Please explain how this statement "Only a few place in the world will plants actually get uvb outside. Pretty much where the hole in the ozone layer is." has ANY BASIS IN FACT.

We have viewed maps showing UVB radiation across the planet. We have research documenting the effects in situ of UVB on living plants. Yet by your logic "only a few place in the world actually get UVB outside." Please defend this preposterous and mistaken assertion.

Realistically I would attempt just 1x....if the efficiency is up over 20-25% then I don't see much of difference between the LEDEngin that will supposedly cover an 8'x8' space with only 1x "10w" diode [5.7 watts? actual]
Thanks,

So if this diode was centrally positioned above the canopy it would give sufficient 730nm for close to 30"? Using a single diode would be easiest but I'm OK with a bar that has two smaller diodes operating on a single driver. I am not an expert solderer and would rather use connectors and paste.

4 single 730nm 3w cree 730 nm xpe over a 3 foot bar are plenty over a 5x2.5 area.

two 3 foot bars will handle a 5x5. more than that is a waste (hey its your dollar) multiple chips on a small board make NO sense at all.
think about the coverage/distribution over the area.

You wouldn't put multiple cobs in a single square foot, more like one cob per square foot. well the same coverage\distribution rules apply for 730 nm flower initiators

well we sure dont need dimmable

need some clarification from mark

says those are 250 mw flux each (top bin!), total 1500 mw, so 6 diodes

but says it is 14.4 forward V

for 6 chips in series that would be 2.4V per diode, which is outside the range of the datasheet (pg 10)

http://www.cree.com/~/media/Files/Cree/LED-Components-and-Modules/XLamp/Data-and-Binning/XLampXPE.pdf

those can usually run up to 700ma or more
really no reason to run these soft for 10 min a day we want bang for the buck

2.1V, 700 mA=1.47W

assuming the bar was 6 in series it would be
12.6V @ 700 mA (8.82 W/bar)

id run an lpc35 or lpc-100:
LPC-35-700 ($13): 3 bars
LPC-100-700 ($25): 8 bars

http://www.trcelectronics.com/Meanwell/power-supply-lpc.shtml

hopefully @welight can chip in here and confirm

would be cool if cutter made a TWO foot bar with THREE diodes instead of ONE foot bar with SIX diodes

groupbuy? ill bet we could get a 100+ order together. id buy a few dozen if the price was right

knock bml's overpriced bars off the map

So 3 bars being 18 diodes, 8 racking up 48?

yes the numbers are nominal(high side) as vf will vary based on drive current, reds normally will be in the range of 1.9-2.4volt, always best to check the Cree data curves for specific numbers, based on binning and drive current. My numbers are 1000ma x [email protected] =14.4 x1000ma =14,4 watts
Cheers

you got it. still thats 6 diodes in a small area where the common sentiment in 1 per sq ft or one per cob is more appropriate. so you see a 24" bar (600 mm for mark ;)) with 3 diodes would be perfect. like 3 in a line at almost 12" apart, a foot space, another 3x bar

Why not a 100-1050 for 3 bars at 48v.

Ya, we'd be better off buying Individual diodes, and spacing them a foot apart on alum Sq bar. I'd just use those buck's growmau5 uses in his far red build video and build 3 36" with 3 each.
