Carbon filter not working...

Soooo I can't smell my grows since i'm so used to it but my gf has helped me figure out that my fuckin basement reaks like hell:wall::wall:

I need some help here, could I just have a dud filter? It is a cheap Apollo Hort, came with a combo with fan, fan is great. 190CFM 4"
I bought it 3 weeks ago, I don't think it has worked the whole time.
I know high humidity makes em not work but my humidity stays under 50, currently is 40.

I intake by leaving the one vent at the bottom of the tent on opposite side of exhaust open.

I have ducting attached with hose clamps. I just checked for leaks and didn't find any. It wasn't the easiest to check with the light and plant in there but I'm pretty sure there ain't any leaks. It smells reaaallly bad, like you smell it before getting to bottom of stairs and opening door to basement, mind you the plant is in a tent in a room with door closed on the opposite side of basement than the entrance. It's gotta just be the filter not working?? I use an electronic cig so I used vapor to check airflow and it's def sucking everything into the filter.

Obviously you need a WAY larger unit than what you have.........How many plants you growing and what strain????

is it running 24/7? what to you have for intake? make sure your exhaust is always stronger than your intake. just make sure it's not too strong because it will suck carbon monoxide from your furnace depending on what you use for home heating.

Is it just one of those simple duct fans or an actual inline fan? You want an inline fan.

Also I rarely find clamps to hold ducting good. I prefer drilling small holes then insert self tapping screws. just 2-3 is good enough. use a wide washer help hold the ducting in because it may tear. then wrap with decent duct tape for leaks. The cheap stuff doesnt hold for long.

Yes runs 24/7. I have the correct style fan, look at the picture in my OP. As said in OP I leave a vent open at the bottom of my tent. Maybe vent hole is too large but I read it should be twice the size of outtake hole which is on point.

I heat with a small 1500w electric heater.

How large is your tent? You checked the filter and fan with vapor...did you check your inlet with vaopr to make sure it was drawing into the tent?

I say try an Ona block for additional cover scent or kick down and buy a slightly larger (longer ) filter. I have the same exhaust fan and went from an 8" to a 12" carbon filter by a more reputable name and it made a big difference.

Do you get negative air pressure with vent open? Does the tent suck in when close? I assume it would.

Yeah I got some ona gel down there but it's not even helping, its like its straight blowing all the smell right out. Yeah I'm gunna return this cheap filter and go with a better one, thinking Phresh, read they were good. Any suggestions?

Yeah intake vent was at 7"x15" and gave negative pressure, I just reduced it to 7"x7.5" to give some more.

@Anon Emaus - I have a ventech filter and it sucks ass. It only works with low odor strains, so i'm supposing yours is similar. Let us know how your phresh works out, i hear can filters are good, too.

Thanks man, I thought it had to be cuz its just a cheap filter. Will do, yeah CAN seems to be top of the line, price shows.

Try slowing it down. I bought a variable speed controller for like 15 bucks and slowing the air down made it work better. The carbon needs time to work.

Or replace the carbon. Take it apart, measure how much comes out, and go to your local aquarium and get fresh carbon
