56 days in flower, these buds close at all? Ugh

This is day 56 since I switched to 12 hours of Darkness (And I'm not sure why autocorrect decided to capitalize Darkness, but I'm going to leave it there because it's amusing me).

The buds are still growing and getting fatter. My impatience has me anxious, and grinding my teeth in my sleep. They were listed as flowering in 50 days. But the trichs are still 75% clear, 24% cloudy with a very rare amber one. Fresh stigma/pistils keep popping up as you can see in the pics. My gf is complaining that there's already too much weed. I told her that I could yell at them and tell them to hurry the fuck up, but they're just like any other woman-they're going to take their sweet fucking time.

These are 4 feminist northern lights I bought from Southern Oregon seed company. ( I'm guessing that when I smoke the bud I'm going to want women to have equal pay for equal work. Or it's just my auto-correct fucking with me again). Have them under a 400w HPS, with a few extra 23w 2700k cfls on the edges. Soil grow in FF, in 5 gallon smart pots.

I was bad and broke from conventional wisdom on a couple things since that's what newbies do. I haven't routinely flushed, nor do I plan on it. Just watching the tds and ph of my runoff. Also I've switched to flowering nutes, 300-600 ppm alternating. PH adjusted to 6.2-6.3. I'm going to keep feeding them until I see a slow down in new flower growth, or they show signs of over feeding. The theories i've read about Flushing sound a lot like what I read about using enemas to remove 'toxins'. The guys that say it's all about curing properly seem to make more sense.

The other thing I did bad was to defoliate heavy several times. I think big fan leaves inhibit the growth from their respective nodes until they're removed. Pop the fan leaves and new stems grow vigorously same as if they had been LST'd. Plus it's how a plant would normal suffer being grazed on in the wild.

Anyways, I'm blathering on. Any guesses on when these ladies might be done? Pics were done with different lighting so the new stigma would show. Did my best. Thanks

At least 2 or 3 weeks to go. Plants look good, frosty as F. Keep em goin man, soon calyxes will start to swell. Pistils will turn colour and start to recede. You still have 90% clear trichs. Most people wait until they have at least 20% amber and the rest cloudy. Personally I'm not into the heavy amber couch lock feeling so I usually chop a bit "early"

I'm sitting here imagining a bunch of beans with purple hair who hate men and dying right now...

Anyways, looks like you still want to let it run another week or two. Make sure you take a good representative sample of the plant from top to bottom when scoping it as not all of it is necessarily going to be the same. As a general rule, if you're a new grower I would take it until it looks done and then let it go another week. If it goes a bit too long and throws a few late-flowering nanners it's not going to hurt anything, but you'll be kicking yourself if you cut it earlier than you could have, I promise you.

Also, I've seen an awful lot of short-flowering strains in my life and I have never found anything that is truly, completely done in 50 days from seed. 50 days from clone is possible but certainly debatable (old SSSC strains like M-39 come to mind, old Afghani and Skunk lines, some of the NL family for sure...), and maybe 50 days of actual flowering versus just days from flip could be what they're saying. If the latter is the case that's a little intentionally misleading if you ask me, since it is pretty universally assumed that the flowering estimates given with seeds are days from flip, not actual days of flowering. 50 days from the flip from seed isn't likely in my opinion.

If it was 50 days from when I first saw flowers then yes, that would give me an extra 10 days or so. I think your 2 more week estimate sounds about right.

Thanks for your thoughtful reply. And thanks to everyone who has chimed in.

And they are frosty as heck. Here's a 15 gm wet nug I cut early so someone wouldn't be spending money at the dispensary. It dried to 4gm. I think if I threw it at the wall it would stick.

The auto correct see's the "Darkness" in your ways and tries to warn you young Padawan!

Dude, I have a few things to cover here. Lets start with. YOU better find some patience - fast! I got news for you. That 8 weeks you were told it flowers.....It's gunna be like 10!!! Then you have the dry and cure - You want it the best it can be? NO SHORTCUTS!

Here, this is when you harvest for max buzz!
https://www.rollitup.org/t/are-they-done-yet-what-does-done-look-like.853978/

Now then....In soil? "FLUSH"? What ever the fuck FOR? You don't "flush"! If you have an overage,,,you simply water it away by watering it out with straight water pH'ed to 6.5 for 5-7 days!

The pH of "run off" is just that! The pH of the RUN OFF! It's NOT an accurate way to meter soil pH!

Soil should be 6.5 pH in veg and 6.7 in bloom! BUT, soil self pH's !!! IF you take care of it! Sounds like your ok but, no pics - no can tell for sure!

NEVER overfeed if you can help it! Bad juju for the plant. Hard to overcome as the yield has been effected, could be badly could be not so bad if it was in veg and allowed to recover well...

Good luck young Padawan!

I must not have been clear about it. I'm not routinely flushing. I have however adjusted my water ph and feeding when run off hit 4.9 early on in veg. That seems awful acidic. And you wanted a pic of my soil? Or?

I anticipate harvest about April 20th. Have a new drying rack ready. Plus fresh mason jars, mini hygrometers and boveda packs. Figuring about 4-6 weeks of curing time.

I'm impatient but I'm not going to waste 14 weeks growing from seed by chopping 2 weeks early. It does help me wait though if I know how much longer. Which was the object of the post.

Thanks again.

"My gf is complaining that there's already too much weed."

This is an upsetting comment. YOU can never have enough weed since you never know what's around the corner. Summer is coming and most peeps don't like growing indoors in the summer and if you can't grow outside you're looking at 4-6 months before you get close to chopping your next grow. It looks like a lot of weed until you get it in jars. Also like some of the other guys said you're about 1-2 weeks away. Nice grow there!

Im thinking strongly 3 weeks. Fill in the 56-60. And give it a two week close observation. Im talking 20-30% trich-pro... Thus relax the brain and embrace success. Good Growin

How did you get such good close pictures of the trichs?

To answer your question you need another 2 weeks minimum. Your buds almost double in weight the last month, even once you get past peak harvest date your THC percentage will go down but you'll have much more bud. I always add 2 to 3 weeks to expected flower times. You already waited 3 to 4 months growing it no reason to rush now just let her finish. And personally I'd stop giving nutes, I've flushed and not flushed one of my plants and noticed the taste difference in flower form and especially in wax form. When you hang your plant to dry the leftover nutrients will drip into the bud from the stem. If it's all water then water will push through the bud while drying bringing more crystals to the surface of your buds

What a "flushing" myth pile!

If your LOOKING for a taste difference in a side by side taste test.....Your MIND WILL find one! Even if it's the exact same thing !
Scientific FACT!

Nutrients will NOT "drip into the bud from the stem"...Scientific FACT!
Your last statement is pure horse shit myth!
