That's what I mean, there's a lot more going on in the tank, than you would have going on in a traditional hydro setup. I assume you feed your fish fish food, and you don't dump nitrate in the tank. The fish eat their food, and through the N cycle, it ends up as available Nitrate to the roots.fertigate

Seems an awful lot like my aquaponic system as well; respectively understanding that the microbial growth is much different in Aquaponics.
Not trying to give you a hardtime or anything. Just looking of the definitions online.
That's what I mean by it not being hydro. It's different. You're feeding fish, the feed the plant. Just as in soil, you feed the soil, the soil feeds the plant.
