Ironically, Politicalcompass put me further left than the pew test did. After taking the test I really see what it is that I don't like about Politicalcompass and their metric. First, I have no idea how agreeing or disagreeing with questions like "Astrology accurately explains many things" helps place me on a political scale. Secondly, and more importantly, their scale of "left" and "right" is
EXCLUSIVELY based on economics, and "libertarian" and "authoritarian" are
EXCLUSIVELY based on social policies. This is not at all an accurate reflection of these political ideologies. Economics is NOT the primary factor determining left wing and right wing. The definition of left wing and right wing has to do with social equality (left wing means you believe in egalitarianism, right wing means you believe in social hierarchy), and encompasses MUCH more than economics. This is why they can list people in as strange places as they feel, because it has nothing to do with actual left or right, it just has to do with economics. They have literally made up their own nomenclature.
