Light Intensity; LED vs HID

There's an easy way to make the light from a point source go straight down like the sun. You just need a large enough lens. Say you wanted to use 1 COB per sq ft. You'd need a 1' diameter fresnel lens. Here's one from AliExpress for $35 with shipping. This image is just a fresnel lens diagram, not related to AliExpress.

The reflectors they're putting on new LEDs are actually doing a good job at that. Like, it was a simple but effective modification, from what I'm seeing, paired with 5w LEDs.

Apaches(stock option) use 14*(28* FOV) lenses. Yes, apache's are that intense at a distance and were designed to be that way.

Notice in pic one the wave effect cause I didn't have the clearance. Only 24". that is alleviated at the correct hanging
heights
To help for lower clearance, less commercial setting they developed their 50* lens(99* FOV), which helped...but not as much as you would think. It is still super intense.
36" with 50's in the center...

Anyone can email them for a all 14* if someone wants...Bumps to ~1200µmols and the outside stay about equal.
And the fixture itself is 25"X29"

I can vouch for @dankanomicgenetics,dont matter how long he had been signed up here lol.his grow is bigger than 99% of the users in this section.if he says they are intense, and tags backs it up,i believe it.
You can light bleach a plant with mars panels, been there done that.my environment and feeds are fine lol.

i think honestly i would buy 2 normal 600 and one gavita, then you not wasted money but make sure you are honest with your results. just dont buy into sales buff, because people say test it

i wish grow shop owner tested these products

advertorial seriously

Gavitas and the high powered LEDs will bleach tops. The cheap LEDs you can put almost right next to the plants, but the expensive ones really have some intesity like the de hoods. I've burnt a top here and there too and it wasn't from nute burn but light intensity from my gavitas.
So you are saying that CXB3590 are cheap? Explain how I can have them 6-8" from the top of my plants (keep in mind, this was veg AND flower) and no burn? 600w @ 56% efficiency in a 4x4 with no burn.

if you are not a tard you will never fuck your plants up
because you respect them, passion of growing
Exactly. This:

"My LEDs burned my plant! Oh my God!"

"That blender hurt my baby! I didn't know my baby could be blended!"

Well, see, if you don't use it appropriately, yeah, the tool is still going to do its job. The answer is to raise the goddamned light.

The sun is far more intense than any light we can put in our rooms. Period the end. I can go look at my LED for longer without going blind than I can look at the sun (maybe a bad analogy, but fuck it).

If someone is claiming that their grow light needs to be 36" above to prevent burn, they are a company shill. You put a light 36" for coverage and large grows. You do not put your light 36" above in a small room/area.

All Bullshit aside, for whatever reason my plants frost up like nobody's business under my Apache with the r2 spectrum. I've noticed a big difference in quality since moving from cob based lights. I know I'm gonna get shit on for this opinion, but it's what I see with my own eyes. I'm not going to sit here and pretend I know the reason unequivocally why, although I have my assumptions, Its just what I've seen over several grows since switching. My guess is its lower leaf temperatures, coupled with high photon density that creates this affect. In my experience cobs tend to create concentrated hot spots, high leaf Temps and reduced trichome proliferation.Specially with lenses. The Apache has a very even light distribution with no hot spots and good density. Just my opinion.

You grow good shit, dude. I'd look into it.

I also just wanted to add that if yoi put a plant against an HID bulb, they actually burn. LED would wither it, but not thermally burn it.

My friend and tester is running the apaches and while I can get a discount on them they are still 2k. Im going to buy one or two myself because I know how intense they are and have smoked and seen and been there on a side by side with the de. Right on par with anything atm and they are that intense they will bleach tops. The gavitas I can get like almost a 16 inches away from with no ill effects. But I have a completely climate controlled environment with more than enough ac too. idk why ppl have to be so damn testy, I get that everyone's a critic, I remember getting bent over on the led ufos when they first came out lol but the Apache is in a league of its own, and their customer service I hear is top notch, that's why I'll be buying some. Not everyone is looking to debate here, esp ppl who already know ;) thanks for the love @sixstring2112 bro
