Yup and make sure if you ever change soil brand ect then you need to re-evaluate the dry weight again.

My tap water is considered very good by health standards, but when I tested it, the ph was at 7.5. So, rather than leave tap water sitting out to so called evaporate whatever b.s. is in it, I use distilled. It's cheap enough and not breaking the bank so why not?

I will almost guarantee your tap water is cheaper than distilled for one.

For two, tap water has some good stuff that plants do use. At least in my area.....

I used to use distilled, my plants improved when I went to tap water oh and I have never checked my tap water PH. I check my PH after I add nutes etc.

I'm wondering if what you were feeling wasn't actually dampness, but coolness. It's pretty easy to mistake one for the other when you get deeper into the soil.
