why dont we collectively throw down for sphere data?

im sure there are at least a dozen or more people (now, and more every day) that would be interested in single chip data.

some bright minds around here. couldnt we confirm mfrs temp and current droop and create a universal database/ front end. imagine a hybrid of cree pct, bridgelux tool, citi tool, and @bggrass 's GUI skills to create a diy simulator that used REAL DATA that was equivalent between manufacturers?

even if we limited the number of data points and extrapolated between them it would be a lot better than what we have now

we could have a database, and as new chips come out we just add to it

im sure you can use whatever sensor you want in a sphere, wed straight measure PAR not lumens

we dont need a big one for fixtures, wouldnt a 12" one do for single chips? i see them on ebay. looks like sphere, sesnor, and controller and youre in business. i have several sensors i would think we could get a sphere and controller for $5K

we need someone with experience in using/commissioning these to chime in

The only problem I see with this, is that every COB/heat sink comb should give different results. Am I wrong? I will look around locally, because I would like to test the CLU058s at various currents on an oversized heat sink. If you find someplace in NorCal for cheap, I'm in.

Because this is the distributor/manufacturers job if they want to sell their product. Why am I going to spend money to tell me what your product that you sell does? So you can use that data and make money? Go get your own testing done...... Until then, I will settle for real world results. I have nearly doubled my production over a SE HPS setup. Good enough for me right now.

cxb kits (3000,3500,4000k) are shipped, should arrive at the sphere next week.........then it's wait time till it's in cue for the volunteer work.

Osram zelion 3x2(125w ssl 80 450/660nm) will also be thrown in, for shits and giggles, my curiosity...........I'm guessing 2.2ppf/w, Germans are efficiency whores and designed/built it that way.

@Stephenj37826 Johnson's gear will also be tested in oct?, soooooooo lots of good cob info coming in the next few weeks

like I said before, once I get approval I will share the results..........it's NOT my gear or my time, I didn't do shit except harass people for this==tired of waiting

I have an offer of free testing with one of the electronics giants right now. Just pay shipping but I think I'd rather pay as to owe a favor( not sure really just don't like being a freeloader ). We are going to be testing maximizer, new fixture, and probably 2 more lamps. We will be posting the results here as well as new website with sphere data and ies files for anyone interested.

The easiest and cheapest way would be to build a purpose-built fixture for testing, that switches between 25/50/100W, water-cooled if you like, and attempts to keep power supply efficiency the same between tests.

Single cob, single heatsink, three small drivers and switch. That's it, send it off, get it tested in the cheapest way possible at all three wattages. Full reports are not necessary, just PPF data.

Anyway, it's doable, especially if somebody knows a guy who knows a guy. A buddy rate for quick and dirty PPF measurements could get a few fixtures done at three wattages each very quickly.

i actually spoke with a company yesterday and best bet is to use their precision power supplies. so yes the most isothermal heatsink we can come up with if we wish to eliminate thermal droop.

i think i might bite the bullet and test some light engines

I have looked at a couple websites on testing and there is a bunch of different types available. In order of importance, what tests would be most useful?
