Just kick'n around. I have a ton of seed from a cross I did. Bubba 76 x Herbies Afghanni Freebie. I had a tremendous, near 100% sprout ratio. They sprouted really quickly and are vigorous growers. Probably all males :)

Why am I doing this?
  • Because I have the seed and really liked the diesel smell of Bubba 76.
  • I don't feel like vegging a few plants for a long time and training them. For some reason I can't get away from mainlining which takes time. I'm adhd like that.
  • I'm also interested to see how the yield turns out.
2x2 x4 cheapie tent.
Solo cups (for now anyway)
Ocean Forest plus some vermiculite and lime.
150w HPS and 100w of CFL on the sides.. Might even toss my blurple 75 w LED in there somewhere.
I'll be using lucas formula I believe.

I think it will work okay. Wish i had used larger square pots. Would have made more sense. Less watering required and they don't tip over. Plus I'd have more roots and less chance of root issues.

I plan to water them in place and suck out the runoff with a shop vac.

The challenge is that they're not fem seeds.
. There a re a few ways to go with this:
  • I could just flip them into flower in a few weeks and whip out the males leaving the females in their solo cups..
  • Or flip them into flower, sex them, toss the males in my neighbor's trash, and repot the females into 1 gallon grow bags. Would I need to let them re-veg for a while?
  • Or toss these in the trash and just grow the 4 fem seeds I have sprouting that I plan to add to the sog in 1 gallon bags. (I'd put them in 2 gallon pots in that case)

Which route would you go?

Afghanis make good breeding stock, if you choose the fem seed route life would be easier but youll miss the chance to sample your genetics. Split down the middle here...

I really can't give any valid input since I'm a first timer, but I chose for my first to go full tilt I am using 2 1000wat hps and 1 1000wat mh with 2 t5 fluorescence just for shits and giggles. I haven't got a clue as to what to expect other than to fuck it up. so far so good, but the cost is brutal.
That being said I'm considering strongly about switching to either LEDs, florescents or maybe even ceramics and going for the sog method so good luck in your venture hope it works for ya no matter how you do it

I would flip them to flower and watch closely for males. They usually show sex first. After eliminating the males, move the strongest females to larger pots and reveg for 2-4 weeks before returning to flower This will be a great learning experience for you. I have flowered in the solos and didn't do too bad, but they are really a hassle to keep hydrated.

I may be crazy, aND you are both absolutely correct I should learn before I try. But please don't take this anyway but a but what it is. I have been around grows most of my life I've listened to growers that have been at it for decades. let's just say I'm a first timer who has a great mind for figuring things, I have never done anything small I figure why start now. they are 10 days into flower and so far I have only giving one out of ten a nitro overload. I just left it be cause they were all due to be flushed before the switch. I flushed em and it came out of it. they should start to stretch here very soon I think the transition from veg to flower is well under way.

What's odd is that I tried to pop some fem seeds that I've had in storage for a few years.. From Herbies.. I was going to throw them into the mix.. They're not germinating very well at all... most of them won't pop.
Do seeds get old?

I have a couple of autos sprouting and going into my 2x2. They are fickle and seem to need more care when spouting. I'm used to vigorous germination and sprouting.

i'd be growing autos if I had the beans... I love them:) Set it and forget it. I think next run I will order a few auto strains and make fem seed on all of them.. Better than paying for seed all of the time.. You know what's funny? When you have 300 seeds you don't baby them at all.. Sprout a bunch and keep the strong ones... When I py 15 bucks for a seed I watch it like a hawk :)

I gave them 300 PPM nutes today. Not sure why :) They don't need it. I guess i am just bored.

I did some testing with GH FLoranova to see how the PH responds as I will be only using Floranova bloom this run, plus a little overpriced crap :) I believe in trichominator..

Here are my test results..

RO water from my tank: 75 PPM 6.5 PH

330 ppm = 6.0 ph... 15 minutes later 5.7 ph
800 ppm = 5.6 ph 30 minutes later 5.5 ph

Better to pop old seeds in a glass of water, if they split open they are good to plant and you can ditch the duds.

Yea, I'm a bit surprised I figured they would be good for any years. Even the ones that popped are off to a slow start. My fresh seeds are rock'n.

Going ok... Temps a little hard to deal with t the moment. Working to fix that... The Bubba sure is stretchy. Very fast growth though. Alll the fem seeds in blue cups are taking their time to get going.
