Hi all,
just wondering how many people leave their plants in the dark for a period before harvest and how long for, the subject is a little hazey to me i have only seen a few people mention it in different forums, i can't find any threads where it is discussed or explained and i'm nearing the end of my first grow so i would like more info.

elaboration of your choice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

It depends on if you want max weight or max quality. 12-24 hours of darkness will burn off the stored starch, reducing weight which results in increased potency and smoother smoking. It will reduce the weight by about 20%.

Really, where did you get that from? No way I've every lost 20% of my weight from a 24-48 dark period prior to harvest or quality increased because of it.

you can't change anything in 12-24 hrs, you just took 4 months to get to this point and you think you can make it dank or gain weight in 12-24 hrs? c,mon. Let's be realistic. Think more about drying and curing properly than stupid bs tricks.

I think the point there was if weight was reduced by 20% (lol) then any potency would be increased relative to starting weight as the ratio would be higher in favor of the potency. I think the premise is flawed though.
Still must of stole that out of a book from 80s

Considering 75-80% of the plants weight is water.

IF, he were correct about the weight-loss, the potency ratio to weight increase would hold true.

But to me it reads as if the plant will pack more of a punch, which is not the same increase as used in this context which is just less weight to same # of gland heads.
