LED vs HPS?

mixing bulbs and LEDS can be a bit of a nightmare since T5s need to be much closer to the plant and LEDs need to be farther away to prevent burning.
I run my 50 watt COBs about 12 inches from the canopy. My COBs that are powered from 75 to 90 watts I generally keep about 18 to 22 inches above the canopy.

I can imagine it must be wonderful been out there in the woods in the daytime... but come nightime don't things get a little creepy lol?

And sorry to hear about your ill health I hope it is not serious, although from your post it sounds like it might be:(
I was born way premature and had hidden deformities that got bad about 10 years ago. I have problems but I'm ok. Thank you.

And when I first bought this house after a lifetime of having streetlights around I was a little terrified in the dark at night.

But now I just notice when the stars are out so vivid and clear. Like up in the mountains of Colorado.

the first dispensary to open in northern nevada used LEDs to grow some of their plants. they also buy product from commercial growers that use CMH lights and you can taste the difference.maybe they just lack the experience since their grower is a recient graduate whose only experience was growing grapes outdoors but their LED grown house weed does not compare tho the products they buy from commercial growers
There are sooooooo many variables from grower to grower. How can you say the it's the light(s) that make the difference?

I can't tell/taste the difference between my in house strains as to whether one was done with HID or LED.

Same here and i got a lot of different types of lights that ive grown the same strain under and it always tastes the same unless i mess up. Lights determine yield not quality.

Sorry to hear Bro, I hope your health improves or at the very least does not deteriorate any further:peace:

Sounds real beautiful where you are, although I think I would have to keep a pack of dogs in case things got hairy come the nightime lol!

a shot gun and solar powered motion detectors would be nice too:):):) I live on the edge of a city in a mountain valley and it is nice

No. They do not. They go by the maximum watt rating of the LED's, and they run them at 40-50% of that rating, to extend their life and for higher efficiency. If a panel has a hundred 3W LED's in it, its called a "300W" panel and will typically consume 125-145W at the plug.
Oh I didn't know this. I am sorry that I accused them of lying out of my own ignorance.
That kind of advertising is at least disingenuous, imo. It's like telling a girl you have a 12 inch dick - it's true, technically, if you measure from your anus, but that's not what she was asking about lol.

Good point best add them to my list of things to buy should I decide to live out in the woods:lol:

And Mountain Valley??? ... That sounds seriously cool...

TBH with the way the world is going atm, and seeing how are food sources are becoming more and more contaminated by big corps I am looking to get together with others in order to purchase some land and create a sustainable community whereby we grow our own produce, so hearing that MichiganMedGrower lives in a woods and that you live in a mountain valley has got me thinking.

Can I ask if either of you are part of a community and whether you grow your own food?

Taste the difference? BS. I guarantee if you smoked the same strain grown using different lights you would never know which weed was grown with what light.
Me personally I have definitely noticed subtle - medium differences in regards to appearance/flavour/aroma when using different spectrums... I have also noticed that plants I have grown with fuller spectrums tend to uptake more water/nutrient solution, but this is by no means definitive and is only based upon my observations of what I have grown indoors with regards to the limited varieties of tomatoes, aubergines and cannabis I have grown over the years.

I also see there is no such thing as a one size fits all solution, because different plants and different strains of canna will have different sweet spot areas with regards to light/nutes/environment.

Lights can change bud density so guess that could change taste. But think that would be a sign of inadequate lighting not led/conventional

That's caused by light quality not light type right? inadequate lighting can cause airy lanky buds and generally lower quality product than proper lighting.

I am not and I don't grow food here yet. But I plan to have a vegetable garden or small yard greenhouse. And we spruced up some nice berry bushes that used to line part of the yard so we should be growing black and cranberries this season.

But I am suffering debilitating health issues despite my mere middle age so we will see how much more gardening I can take.

I will say we get much of our eggs and veggies from local smaller farmers who live in the area.

Yes but there is more than density to achieve with better spectrum. As said above. I agree the difference is subtle but the plants seem to have a more outside grown quality. A little trippier and a little tastier than HPS alone for me. But it is SUBTLE!

I think environment as long as light is good is much more important.

it is cool. i'm 1 mile from a river in a wilderness area where ive seen squirrels, rabbits coyotes and on one occasion a bald eagle from my front yard I can see snow capped mountains surrounding my house less than 3 miles a way and it's only a 20 minute drive to a large mountain lake.and all the major markets and home improvement centers as well as walmart are withing 2 miles of my house.I chose this area as the place to buy my retirement home

Sounds a lot like where I used to live in Colorado. But I could never buy a home there. My little retreat was ridiculously cheap. My Brother the Doctor spent more for his Cadilac.

Leds hype up just about everything!
that crowd remind me of love sick school boys :lol::lol: with training in engineering I have the skills to "run the numbers" and they just don't add up. a theoretical 300 watt light I designed using cree cool white and photo red diodes that produce the same radiant power as a 2 bulb F54T5HO fixture drew 100 watts with meanwell drivers VS 110 watts for the T5 fixture and had the same blue/violet and UV deficiency that all leds have. based on manufacturer life expectancy the energy savings would fall short of off setting cost differences for fixtures and bulbs based on actual price I would need to pay..but then you can't argue with love

I bought my house on a short sale at the bottom of the market 5 years ago when I retired due to health problems. I payed the same price that the house sold for new in 1992. it has doubled in value since that time.moving up here from southern california I do like the small town atmosphere and being so close to nature

Last i checked, leds had re-written the fundamental laws of thermodynamics...!
