B...tall and skinny

C: I like this plant, the runt but is coming on strong

D: looking good

The Jack's....I started these just in case the others were males, but since all 3 are female I really don't need them...but can't kill them

Yesterday we had some nice afternoon sun, so the gals got some sunshine for about an hour or more

These seeds came from a previous summer indoor sunshine grow which produce a couple dozen seeds. I would not be surprized if these plants produce seeds, as I been bouncing them from HPS to CFL/LED and altering the hours/day (now back to 20/4), and now sunshine...time will tell

Anyhow, no preflowers yet, which makes these the slowest auto's I ever grown, but I think they will show gender soon

Just how fast do autos show sex? The Jacks aren't even a month old yet. I thought they took at least 30 days if not 45, but I could be way off.

yes, about 28 to 32 days is typical for auto's....these plants are about 30 days now, so I guess maybe I'm being impatience but they do seem to be on the slow side and a ways to go before pre-flowering....I may be wrong but they do seem to be behind schedule

had to re-vamp the grow room as the gals are consuming the space quickly.

I removed the coat rack which supported the hood and installed a second shower curtain rod (I believe in redundancy, I call it stoners insurance)

the hood is now supported via the top curtain rod, and the lower rod is the back-up.

Added more Mylar panels and removed the box the Jack's were sitting on...increased the height of the osculating fan, re-positioned the hood fan and the temp gauge

The Jack's are now taking the back seat, as you may have noticed they are sitting on the floor of the HPS room

I have a second room/closet with CFL/LED bulbs for the night shift, and in the morning they go into the HPS room until lights-out...and even some sunshine when worth while

Your B C & D are so tall already and you're just a wk or so into flower, they could double easily. The thick stalks show the potential. Hope you have the height and the ballast.
I just had a bone headed event. I turned my lights on early by 20 mins yesterday, by over riding the timer, to transplant my mother and get the new seedlings into the veg box, but forgot to switch back when done. So lights on for 22 hr. Hoping to correct by a full 26hrs of dark. Have no idea if this is the correct action. Just shooting from the waist.

I am surprized just how much they are stretching, (reminds me of my Mexican Sativa grow)

you are correct, the preflowers only started 10 days ago and they are nearly double as tall now

I had to lift my hood again this morning, I only have 6 inches left with this setup, so it looks like another room re-vamp coming up soon.

If it gets really bad, I can remove the planks from the bath-tub and allow the gals to sit on the bottom of the tub

As for lights....600 watts HPS is all they get. I may have to eventually keep the Jack's in the CFL/LED room (and sunshine) as space is becoming tight

I'm currently 11.5 on and 12.5 off but think of altering to 11/13....but not sure when is best to do this...your thoughts?

anyhow....don't think you will have issue with only one day of 22 hours of light...it will likely show no negative signs

cheers

As far as light / dark cycle, I'm no botanist but what I understand is that during light period the plant makes both sugars, and carbohydrates. It uses the sugar during the light and the carbs at night. So the theory is with Hi intensity lights a plant can make all the carbs it can store and use in a 12 hr dark period, in less than 12 hrs of light. One article I read stated that 6 hrs of light will deliver the same growth as 12. I've never gone that far but have dropped down to 9 once and the plants never seemed to suffer. Currently I'm running 10.5 on just to help heat the space with cold weather we've been having. So I'd have no problem supporting dropping the light time down to 11 hrs. Not sure if this logic would pertain to autos, since they have the ruderalis gene.

thanks Watts...ever since my Mexican grow, I've always seem to go less than 12 light (except auto's...yeah they do best on 20/4 IMO)

I thought you did a stepped reduction, and only went 10.5 on for the last few weeks

No I reduce right away. Started flower at 11/13 and would have reduced more if it wasn't for the temps.
I really enjoy watching your grows with such large healthy plants in a 1/2 gal of medium. Keep up the good work.

the plants are no longer stretching as it's been several days since I adjusted the hood height

J1 started preflowers on Jan 27, but has not progressed much, and J2 still has no preflowers

first is a pic of them enjoying the sun yesterday evening, looking nice and healthy
P2010012.JPG

this pic is early morning (lights just came on), J1 is drooping, and this is not the first time I've seen this early morning droop

Update on Gals....seem to be dropping the large fan leaves. I never like this as I believe a really healthy plant should keep the majority of its leave nice and green until harvest date.....seems my last few grows have not done this

The Jack's are really disappointing me, to the point they are banished from the HPS room and shall remain in the CFL/LED room (or sunshine).

J1 - has very recently developed a deficit that I've never seen before...another reason to isolate it from the big gals

Also she has a few preflowers since Jan 27, but they are just not progressing...another reason to abort this bitch
P2040020.JPG
several leaves have black dots (not mites or bugs, I checked) and are quickly going downhill
P2040022.JPG

and J2 is looking great but is doing sweet dick all....still no preflowers and it's 42 days old since sprouting....I'm concerned it's not an auto and will require 12/12 to trigger, to which I have no plans on doing..... as such both of these auto's are on my shit list and may have limited days

I have a real problem with condemning a plant. And have suffered way too long in each occasion. I'd get rid of J1 now, it's only going to create trauma. The J2 looks really healthy and has to flower eventually. My one question is "How good was the 1st run Jack?"

The Jack that produced the seeds was not bad but not great...shall we say mediocre at best

I'm thinking like you ...J1 is toast, J2 may be worth keeping for awhile
