Negative DIF to reduce 12/12 stretch

Has anybody tried a negative DIF in day/night temps to reduce the stretch and tighter internodes for bigger colas? Keeping night temps higher and day temps lower. I read an arcticle about it on high times wondered if anybody else tried this to reduce the flowerering stretch?

I haven't done it myself but have read some commercial growers and others use that technique to slow down some strains to allow other strains to catch up in height when doing multi strain grows.

And of course they continue to grow the slower strains under their regular lighting and apply this technique you speak of to the plants they want to slow down.

slow growth as in the plant not developing as fast as it should or just slow as in not stretching?

Greenhouse cultivation uses this method to control the height of many different plants. It doesn't hinder the health of the plant. Just helps limit stretch. They can't sell tall spindly plants. Consumers want compact ones.

Nice I have 7 multiple strains running right now. The canaopy on the plants is pretty even right now maybe a few indicas that are a couple inches shorter. So if I keep the negative DIF for the first few weeks of flower they should have an even stretch right? Or maybe not stretch at all? I'm in day 2 of flowering trying this right now! My temps during lights on is 75f and lights off is 80f

Probably would be better just to prop up the plants that are a little slower to even out your canopy if you can. That is what I do and it works great. I use books, boxes, wood or what ever I have laying around to put under pots of plants that are a little shorter than the others on multi strain grows. The strains that get out of control in height I either LST or Supercrop as needed.

This might be easier to do.
Cool Morning Pulse: There is another method to inhibit stem stretching based on DT and NT; the “cool morning pulse”. It has the same outcome as using -DIF. This method consists of lowering the morning temperature 3-6˚C (5-10˚F) for 2 to 3 hours at dawn. This is the time of day when stem growth is most active.

@Sam1510 you are going to have to let that grow do its thing and deal with it as it goes. It may be a bit crowded but can't tell until they grow some.

Just follow the above advice and raise and bend plants as needed. I do not cut fan leaves off ever and do not recommend to do so especially if you have to ask. If they are too crowded. You can prune branches or remove a plant.

I bend my plants usually by week 2 of stretch and let the branches all become tops. The plants tend to look like an upside down ice cream cone shape with many tops. Look up LST. It can be done in flower as well as veg.

And read ed Rosenthal's growers handbook or a similar classic grow guide for great info. I didn't learn anything here in the forum until I had a good understanding of growing from books and greenhouse information. It's hard to tell when the commenters really know stuff when you are new.

If we could post pics I would show how all my different plants get trained as needed for an even canopy with completely different plants from seeds and clones in there.

Good luck you should have tons of buds soon. But be very patient with each step. With horticulture. Patience is quality. Especially come harvest time.
