First time grower here!
- 5 feminized Northern Lights from Nirvana
- Grown in connected 5 gal buckets with another 5 gal bucket reservoir, actively recirculating via pump and top feed lines.
- 1100 gph air pump (60w) with a line to a 5" airstone disk in each grow bucket. For the first 6 weeks I used garbage individual 2w pumps with 2' stones. Upgrading made a big difference.
- 5'x5'x7' tent
- 1kw MH and HPS lights in a cooltube hood
- 440 cfm exhaust fan and carbon scrubber
I vegged for 8 weeks. I know it's on the longer side, but since I was using the 'Manifold' or 'Mainline' technique (specifically the one with two rounds of toppings by NebulaHaze) I figured they could use the extra recovery time.
A picture timeline:
January 19th, about 2 weeks after sprouting. I had originally started with 4, then decided to sprout 2 more a week or so later. Bad idea! One ended up dying early, and the other one became the runt of the litter, for obvious reasons. (it's the top left in the pic above).
Here's one on Feb 9th, a few days after the second round of topping and LST. You can see some spots that I believe was the result of nutrient burn (I had doubled the PPM in the nute mix around this time).
Feb 24 - Plants above are now about 7 weeks into veg. As you can see, very bushy, and less than 2 feet tall. There is still a good 4' left of max light height. However, this is shortly after I upgraded to a much bigger air pump and airstones.
March 3 - a few days after the switch to HPS light, 12-12 light cycle, and the start of the flowering stretch. If you compare to the previous photo you can see they've grown maybe another foot just in the time it took to transition!
Here's another shot from March 3, taken to give you a better idea of the height of the plants relative to the tent space. Note that I was able to raise the light even higher eventually by strapping it directly to the top bar and removing the hooks.
... I've got more recent pics to upload with my question coming up next..
