Ezekiel Moreno, 35, a Navy veteran, was stocking groceries in a supermarket at night — “a dead-end job,” as he describes it — when he was accepted in WorkAdvance two years ago. That training led him to a job at M&M Manufacturing, which makes aerospace parts, and to steady pay increases.

“We’ve moved out of an apartment and into a house,” Moreno told me, explaining how his new job has changed his family’s life. “My daughter is taking violin lessons, and my other daughter has a math tutor.”

Moreno was sitting at a table with his boss, Rocky Payton, the factory’s general manager, and Amy Saum, the human resources manager. All said they had voted for Trump, and all were bewildered that he wanted to cut funds that channel people into good manufacturing jobs.

“There’s a lot of wasteful spending, so cut other places,” Moreno said.

Payton suggested that if the government wants to cut budgets, it should target “Obama phones” provided to low-income Americans.

Guess he never heard of the want ads.

Votes have consequences.

When people hate what is done in their name but don't change, that's political insanity.
You're the one trying to promote a new party and claiming to know the habits of voters...

How was this a surprise to you? This is what I've been telling you for weeks.

If you won't even try to reach out and listen to other Democrats then how do you expect to convince Independents?

What's a washed up chubby felon who ratted his partners to do?

WTF is going to want that?

Says the washed up, divorced trick who's making minimum wage. At least I have a felony to blame. What's your excuse for being on welfare for 10 years?

Democrats had their chances over the past 8 years to promote and legislate for better jobs and working conditions across the US. Instead middle America to withered. What folks in the red states saw were Democrats promoting programs to resettle refugees and debate about immigration. Also Clinton scandals. What wasn't up front and center to the public were programs to help white middle America and they asked "what about me?". Why should they vote for a Democrat when they hear Republicans say every day how they are going to make jobs and economy grow? Not that they will, as is evident in Trump's actions, but they keep the topic front and center of their rhetoric. Democrats can do the same thing with the added benefit of being truthful. They are better at creating jobs than conservatives. They are worse at talking about it.

... And forming a left wing version of the Tea Party would hold the establishment Democratic Party's feet to the fire- or give political cover, take your choice- to actually move to the left on these issues as opposed to merely paying lip service to them.

You are awfully certain of this. I'm not. The problem with a single ideology approach is that they might be right in the idea but wrong in the application. The tea party made progress on almost religious zeal rather than being honest and accurate about what is really going on. A zealous left that demands adherence to an ideology rather than the facts on the ground is just as unattractive to me.

I'd prefer to be part of a movement that embraces diverse ideas and works to come together using the best of each group's ideas and meets the most needs.

I want to be part of a movement that works. And that works to advance the causes dearest to me. Religious zeal has its advantages in terms of focus and motivating power, it's dangerous to discount that.
