SUBARU
i like honda and VW as well.
subarus are great, but they pop head gaskets more than any engine I have ever seen
we joke and call head gaskets and the timing belt as a 100,000 mile service.
especially the sohc h-4, the dohc does it too, but not nearly as bad.
but the 2 cylinders simply doesn't seem to cool as well as an inline 4
only have two on each side and the jackets aren't very big
subarus perform well though, that's for sure.
now as far as VW.... i'm not the guy to ask on this, cuz I fuckin hate them.
no candy coating that at all
they are beautiful cars, but seriously lacking in the engine and tranny dept.
and the design?
fuck me.. you ever hear of a shitty asinine procedure called "service mode"?
just a 2 or 3 hour job on Passats, Audis, and such
you um. need to take off the ENTIRE fuckin bumper in order to even start on anything
lights, bumper, radiator, tranny cooler lines
or my other favorite thing is the fact that they like to use sixteen different fuckin parts for the same damn engines, all microscopically different..
they like to use PLASTIC water pump impellers that like to break off and lodge inside the engine block, and since it's plastic, you can use magnets or anything to draw them out...
I could go on and on
typical german car though, they all are beautiful, they mostly perform well, they all pay attention to the details moreso than Japanese and American cars..
BUT
almost across the board, german cars break down WAY more than normal cars
and justifiably so.
much more complex
