seeds are not sprouting like they use to...

so i have a total of 27 seeds, i think i'll probably only end up with a few viable plants that have a decent phenotype, most of them will be males i guess...

(all of a sudden i'm getting a lot of male seeds... maybe payback for years and years of lucky females, yes?)

so i put them in white Styrofoam cups with royal gold king's mix and some water...

i have gorilla glue 4, head band, candy kush, and some random bag seeds...

i put them in a clear plastic bag and they are in the shade right now, a few have started to sprout, i put a few also in the sun under the clear plastic bag just as an experiment.

i also have one in the full sun without a bag...

my question is... is the bag a good idea to keep it moist...?

how long before they sprout???

when i used the paper towel method, seeds sprouted much faster...

I can't say bc I never tried it . But I've read that putting them in the sun will cook them. I do know that light is bad for root development. I think a bag in a warm dark place would be better. I've read were some people place it under a electronic device to keep in warm something like that.

I don't use any of those personally, I use root riot cubes in a domed tray , same thing with cloning.

The way I have always germinated any seeds is to put some cotton wool in a Tupperware box, and spread the seeds on the wool. Then give them a good soaking with a water spray, and leave it on the kitchen windowsill. I get near to 100% germination rate.

I probe mine with a digital thermometer.

How I germ indoor.
Set up small pots with medium.
Get it moist. Not wet but moist.
Drop beans in a glass of warm water.
Come back 12 hours later to check on them.
Most have sunk. That tells me the embryo is sufficiently wet. If it's going to do it's job it'll crack under the soil.
Insert bean in medium.
Pour a little bit of water on top of buried bean to bind the medium together a bit so it pulls the seed's shell off when it pops out of soil.
Set it and forget it.
The reason I only wet the soil to where it's moist is so the starter roots have to grow like mad in search for water.
I usually have roots busting out of the bottoms of 2 and 3 gallon pots by seven days or so from sprout using promix.
And the growth up top keeps on trucking as well.
Nice and streamline.

I'm the same

but many older seeds can drown

so I stick to about 8 hours

I've also been adding aloe vera a teaspoon

to the imbition jar as a surfactant

with great results
