I guess this is for viewing for everyone as this is the show and tell thread. Will update as it goes. https://www.rollitup.org/t/first-outdoor-grow-2017.942918/#post-13600366
I wouldnt go off size while it is another method. Id go off of how fast theyre drinking the water. Typically if its full of root mass it will drink the water rapidly like in a day. Thats how u kniw u have a fat root ball. When you transplant make sure u check bottom for circling andgently pull the roots away frim that path just hekps them get outta that motion they start to circle when they are searching for more room. If you let itSo I transplanted Female 2 into it's final home a much bigger container. As you can see it is way bigger than the 1.5 gallon container it was in. Not sure about the 1 foot of plant per gallon of container...I thought the roots would be deeper and more than what it was I could of left it in that smaller pot and it would have grew probably another half a foot or a foot. That is not a very good rule to go by. I would say 2 feet per gallon but that's just my opinion.
Next time i would hold off on transplanting the smaller plants into such big pots. If you go into too big of a pot too soon, the plant will never reach the edges and start to fill out. If you transplant eveything right you should see explosive growth within a day of transplant, almost like youve just allowed it to get bigger and it wanted to all along. Here they are. All five of my plants. Transplanted two of them today into bigger pots. The one on the steps has not been topped and i'm not going to top it. I just wanna see the difference if it turns out to be a girl. Not sure if it is yet. The other 4 plants are females. The only ones that I know the strain is the Dark Devil in the five gallon bucket and then I have a bubba's gift in a small little starter pot. probably one pint container. things are going pretty good. I gave them all nutes today except for the bubba's gift. Other plants are bag seeds.
You don't think that female in the biggest pot is big enough for that pot yet? I thought since it was dwarfing the 1.5 gallon pot I should transplant but when I took it out the root mass wasn't even at the bottom yet which was weird. From my understanding and taking horticulture they say as above so below but that was not the case The roots were no where near the size of the top of the plant. but it is what it is we shall see the results soon hopefully it's not too much of a deal for the plants they seem to be some hardy bag seeds they have had a pretty rough life lol but they are still kickin.Next time i would hold off on transplanting the smaller plants into such big pots. I recently sprouted my seeds 5 days within one another, my cheesequakes though short and stout and the last to sprout had the thickest and most roots that started circling, was the last plant to get into dixie cups also. Its all strain dependent, thats why I suggest going off its watering needs. If it is drinking every day you know it has a healthy full root system that is sucking it right up. Im not just saying it you will truly notice how fast they are drinking like you cant keep up, I wouldnt let it go like that for too long as not to risk rootbounding but it will definitely tell you its ready. You don't think that female in the biggest pot is big enough for that pot yet? Oh definitely they will survive, just trying to avoid any stunting or delays in growth is all. Roots tend to reach outwards until they reach the edges then they start to fill in, with that logic a huge pot will take forever to start establishing a root. You will be fine just dont be surprised if that takes awhile to catch up is allYou don't think that female in the biggest pot is big enough for that pot yet? I appreciate the insight as this is my first grow. I read a lot of articles and watched a lot of videos. Some guy called George Cervantes or some shit said something similar about what size pots to use. I believe he put it like if you put a smaller plant in a bigger pot that it couldn't keep up with all the water and nutrients inside the pot so it would slow down it's growth. The only problem I have with that is what about when you plant one in the ground...I mean the earth is huge so how can that be? just doesn't make sense to me not saying he is wrong but I don't understand the logic there. Nor am I saying you are wrong either just doesn't sound right if you compare it too having one in the ground and then saying if the pot is too big it will slow it down. The pot that I had it in only had a small hole in the bottom for drainage b/c it was really a plastic bowl not a pot for plants haha. So I couldn't look at the bottom of the pot and see the root mass so I just guessed at it since it was so much bigger than the pot but now I know to look at the soil for wetness and dryness since you mentioned that as to tell how healthy the roots are that makes perfect sense. I can dig that. The other problem is I only have a limited number of pots most of which are small 1 gallon or 2 gallon except for two. The dark devil should finish first and when it does that will be bubbas final home. I'm trying to give them all a fair chance at maximum size b/c as I have read countless times. Bigger roots Bigger Fruits. Thanks again.Oh definitely they will survive, just trying to avoid any stunting or delays in growth is all. You can grow marijuana in any less than ideal conditions its basic instinct is to survive no matter what it has to do. We try to guide it and help by establishing root system early. Thats a good question and i believe it will just take awhile for the plant to find its "edges" you want a nice full root system so constricting it in a sense will give u much denser growth in between transplants. Issue with putting into a huge hole also is you have to evenly water takes much longer for that mass of soil to dry which constricts oxygen to the roots, have to think of them like humans baby only wants so little of everything, doesnt have high demand for water etc. Another issue going right outdoors in the ground is its way more susceptible to pests, rodents, and the environment whereas putting a teen out at least has its grounding to build off ofI appreciate the insight as this is my first grow. And the only way to get more roots is having more space for them to grow. I would invest in a 25+ gallon pot that way you can let it reach its potential even then it may max it out. Either way you can still grow a bomb plant in less medium just wont be as bountiful.I appreciate the insight as this is my first grow. I read a lot of articles and watched a lot of videos. Oh and that female that is in flower I don't know what size pot it is in but it's a self watering pot whatever that means...but it doesn't say how many gallons but it looks to be 2.5 or 3 gallons but I don't have another bigger pot to put it in that isn't being used already. Wish I did.
Agreed. Planting in ground brings more pests, however as an organic cultivator for every insect there's a predator. I believe strongly in the food web and how the beauty of nature balances itself out.And the only way to get more roots is having more space for them to grow. Ouch , lucky you had any survive. Those 3 bag seed plants where germinated April 1st and I believe I put them into pots that same week. So they are around 2 1/2 months old. After about a week or two weeks my 2 year old pulled them out of the soil after I turned my back for 2 minutes. I had them at my front door in the sun, I planted them back in as soon as I saw it and they all made it but one. The dark devil and bubbas gift have two different starting times. I started the DD in the soil on May 15th. The bubba was started maybe a week later week and a half, something like that.
I agree, but I am growing outdoors b/c I don't have a grow tent or grow anything for indoors. I do want one tho. Like that one little grow thing you can control with your phone it looks like a little refrigerator. That would be nice especially during the winter.Agreed.
